Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) 4

Page not only was a masterful guitarist, he could also play theremin like nobody's business. It doesn't matter to me if he stole from others, at least he didn't play their music badly.

he's kind of over rated, but he did write Stairway, and alot of other great songs. He diserves a better spot.

Dave Johnson, you are not only biasly stupid, but ignorant. Many of those so called " riffs to die for" were actually stolen from uncredited negro blues performers. Page is a dishonest and unoriginal guitarist.

Very weak acoustic guitarist and electric work is self indulgent. Many mistakes littered through the Led Zeppelin collection. Not helped by weak rhythm section.

This is serious bull, Jimmy Page, Overated, take off the damn earplugs when you listen to a song. Jimmy Page has major talent, he was Eddie Van Halen's and many other guitarists inspiration. If it wasn't for Jimmy Page, we wouldn't have the fuzz distortion box, which he, and Les Paul invented. Page was unique, he created riffs to die for, he was a solo genius, I mean have you ever listened to a Led Zeppelin song, have you ever picked up a freakin' guitar? I have been jamming for 12 years, and if you've been playing guitar for as long as I have and say Jimmy Page is Overated, you deserve a huge smack in the face.(Soundjunkie is right, heroin really does screw up a hell of a lot of people, including Jimmy Page, for a bit anyways)

Brilliant guitarist. I defy anyone on the planet to play some of his songs (some quite complicated, swift tempoed) perfectly, a tempo, every time. There seem to be two schools of thought: First, if you don't play every song flawlessly every single time - then you're no good. Second: The manner of play - the interpretation, style and emotion and soul are far more desirable then technical perfection. Jimmy has all those things, plus high technical skill. I'm a musician, have listened to many, many Zep songs over and over and over, and I have yet to find any gaffe that detracts from the musicality. Only those who are eagerly listening to every note, every chord will find errors(Or are they errors - have you checked the sheet music?) and are happy to point them out. I would put Jimmy Page in the Top Five Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Go take a listen.

OK Maybe Jimmy Page is not the greatest guitar player ever, However he had a vision and clearly he was in control as far as the direction of Led Zeppelin. Jimmy's time as a session player gave him the ability to produce and orchestrate. Having a bandmate like John Paul Jones who was as expierience as a session player and producer must have really made it easy for Jimmy to propel Led Zep with the greatest rock riff's ever. Check out the sales of Zeppelin albums! Every studio album is a classic! The BBC & How the West Was Won show How powerful Led Zeppelin was live. With all Jimmy has done he has the right to be in any Gretaest Guitar Player List

pretty inovative, for bringing alot of pre-existing arrangements and progressions to rock, just like jh. Didnt do much new, and led zeps recordings are littered with mistakes and fumbles on guitar that would make any modern guitarist blush. Not a very skilled technical player tho.

Jimmy Page has to be put at the top of the chain becasue he was an innovator. Mr Solo King, Your mention of Rory Gallagher and Jeff beck is an indication that you know your guitarists (most people under 35 probably dont even know who Rory Gallagher is!...Im a a pro musician of 25 years in Texas) But I dont think it is resonable to compare him to any of these others. They were all students of his playing,(except maybe Beck) of his licks and style. I would compare him to others in his day..i.e. Clapton, Hendrix, Billy Gibbons or even Richie Blackmoor...these players in my opinion were all better guitarists. I believe Jimmy Pages real forte was as a Producer. He is responsible for the sound that Zepplin had on there records. It was all his vision and mixing. And that is what made them the ikon they are today. I was never really impressed withthem live. They did have energy and sex power...but other than Bonzo, Plant and paige were not the musicians that people percieve them as. Plant was pitchy and still is even more now and Paige was raw but sloppy (all the heroin did not help).

Maybe the greatest guitarist of all time. Played with amazing amount of emotion and incredibly creative. He may have ripped off some old blues licks but he certainly made them his own.

I know that he ripped off all the old blues players, but he was incredibly gifted at lead playing as well as rhythm. He had the perfect combination of technical prowess and emotional depth that made him roughly fifteen times better than Clapton (the most overrated guitarist ever). The only problem with him is that he was kind of a selfish player; playing live he would throw in lots of flashy solos in every single song, even songs like Moby Dick and No Quarter which were supposed to be instrumental showcases for Bonham and Jones respectively. Probably my favourite guitarist of all time.
