Although I think the entire guitar virtuoso genre is inane and seriously lacking in musicality, there's no denying Steve Vai's abilities. Check out Devil's Food.

Vai is an excellant guitarist. I tend to think he picked up more from his days playing in Zappas band than working with Joe Satriani. Some of his work has incredible depth of feeling.

Seriously unbelieveable. The fact that I can't rate it higher then 5 angers me as he deserves more. I've been a Vai fan for about 4 years and NO modern guitarists come close to his class, and not too many old ones either.
