Seems like a nice enough young man, though he has a very Cotton Mather/ Jonathan Edwards Puritanical streak mixed in with more wholesomey idealism than any other rater here, a mindset which demands the eradication of Chips Ahoy and the glorification of The Power Rangers and such...Nice kid I guess, got 0 against him, but he reminds me of a character from the old 50's Davey and Goliath claymation program... some of his beliefs and ideas are about as realistic as Donny Osmond teaching an Afrocentric History course at a historically black college...

I can't say I ever read anything he wrote that I ever agreed with, but I believe his opinions arose from genuine conviction, and he expressed his thoughts well and passionately. Hopefully, his recent hiatus from the website is only temporary.
louiethe20th 07/31/2007
Classic probobly surprised me the most with giving me the 1 with no comment, but he has not been around for a long time so it doesn't matter much, probobly busy with the Pokemon.

UPDATE: CTVFan has certainly evolved! His reviews are now much more balanced and considerate, without compromising his ever-shining optimism. His reviews on gaming are pretty good (though I still disagree with many). Original Comment, 10/10/04: Even though I disagree with practically everything this guy says (it's amazing how much so), he's probably not that bad a person. To his credit, I at least respect his views on Christianity and Agnosticism (by the way, despite what one would think, he's not Christian according to a few of his posts). He certainly has a right to his opinion, but perhaps it would serve him well to remember that so does everyone else--wishing to ban rap music, Comedy Central, and other things simply because it's not to your liking is selfish when you're not considering if others like it. The high distaste of profanity is a little odd--though I agree words can be used to hurt others, as he often states, it doesn't take a swear word to hurt people--words like hate, moron, and stupid also hurt people, some more than foul language does. It's not the word itself, but the meaning behind it, that makes a word potent. I admire his optimism and idealism, but it might be advisable to take off the rose-colored Jordie-Laforge visors before stepping out into the world.
Specialboothvi cJr. 07/14/2005
to be honest, i'd give him a one but he does have some pretty good comments,
Gentle Jude 05/28/2005
He is a good person. Maybe it is easy to think of someone who is a virgin or never swares as not having a life, but in actual fact, he does have a life. Life isn't all about sex and profanity. In fact, sex was meant to be something clean until mankind made it into something dirty. I am not afraid to say this, but I can identify with him a lot. Although I was a real brat when I was a child, when I was a teenager, I was mature for my age group and liked Star Trek and rarely swore, although I was far from righteous though! He has some very Christian ideals. I'm not sure whether he is a Christian or not but I think he would make a very good Christian. I would sure like to meet him in heaven.
mtbmlb 04/18/2005
I don't know. I swear most of the time in disgust so I don't think he'd appreciate it. I mean, what college student would care about swearing?
Donovan 04/15/2005
Classic gets a lot of flack from what I've seen on this weblist at least. I appreciate his positive attitude and find his efforts to avoid the trashier side of life refreshing. He is 20 years old and from what people say he has matured since his debut on RIA. I find his comments for the most part interesting. Hang in there Classic, I wish you the best.
helmut 02/15/2005
I guess you could critisize him for intolerance, but I think this is just his way to get his points across, by letting everybody know how strongly he feels. As for these guys, I don't care what they say about you. You're all right in my book.
Skizero 02/11/2005
Bitter, angry, and hates just about everything. Let's see he hates The Olympics, people who smile, humanity, and admits to being an angry drunkard. Not appealing at all. UPDATE: I didn't write this. this is actually what CTVFan said about me. i just thought it would be funny to post on his.
Jar-Jar Binks 02/11/2005
I wouldn't wanna be a friend of this guy. My life would be quite miserable.
numbah16tdhaha 02/10/2005
Why is eveyone so down on CTVF? I realize there is a slightly naive outlook here that might not even be harsh enough to get rated PG, but this is a good natured person who just needs to loosen up a bit. UPDATE: All the way to five stars because he has a girlfriend now. Hope she corrupts you! UPDATE: I scratch my head and wonder if Ski is rating the right person or if he has a spasm that a doctor should have a look at.
Mooselover 01/29/2005
How could a person in the top 25 most helpful reviewers be rated so low. Though I do tend to disagree with him sometimes I still enjoy reading his comments on things and his view of the world. And unlike me he isn't lazy to write long comments. Very nice guy.
MissPackRat4Je sus 01/19/2005
I have always thought highly of ClassicTVFan47. I like the fact that he's such a decent young man; that's hard to find in 19-year-old young people. He also posesses another admirable trait -- optimism; one can never get enough of it. Reach for the stars, Classic!
irishgit 12/16/2004
SECOND UPDATE: I'm leaving my original comment and update intact below, because it is part of the point I want to make here. People and reviewers can change, particularly youthful ones, and frequently, as in this case that change is for the better. This reviewer seems to have grown up considerably in the last year, whether due to the effects of new experience, going to college or his acquisition of a girlfriend. For whatever reason, CTVFan's most recent posts show an increased tolerance for other views, and far less of his former puritanical righteousness. Further, some of the intelligence that he has always touted himself for, but has never before been particularly in evidence, is starting to show. While I strongly suspect that our tastes and worldview will never coincide, I much prefer the evolved reviewer that CTVFan has become. ORIGINAL POST: Quite apart from his naive and rather silly opinions, which he has a right to, this reviewer/list maker has an incredibly annoying habit I have recently discovered. Namely, he removes comments from his lists which he does not like. I have made several comments on his Hopes for the future list, of which at least two have been removed. If you put up a list, have the courage to listen to a little criticism. FIRST UPDATE: A childish liar, whose disdain for reality is so complete that he has no regard for the truth. A moral coward, with such low self esteem he is constantly seeking approval from strangers on the internet. And to end on a personal note to CTVFan: I do not hate you. Hating requires caring, and I do not care in the slightest about you. Further, I do not hate imagination, and I care less about what you perceive to be your brilliant creative imagination. My distaste for you has nothing to do with your rather infantile likes for trash pop culture and junk food. It has everything to do with your foolish arrogance and ignorance, and your ongoing falsehoods and cowardice.
maersk 11/10/2004
this guy=ned flanders, only more bland.
bibliophile 11/05/2004
Hes square. Hes here. Get used to it. I realize CTV did something that made some people livid (censored some people on one of his weblists, I think), long before my time on RIA. And they were right to be angry. Censorship is anathema. Hopefully he knows better than to do that again. There are good things about him: he is polite and he offers a unique point of view (albeit a viewpoint rooted in a wholesome time that likely never existed). It might seem to some of us that he hasnt lived when it would be more accurate to say he hasnt lived the same experiences others have. He has made a choice to be who he is, and he seems to be secure with it. Some people assume he will change eventually. Well, maybe he never will. Why does it annoy some people that he doesnt align more with their views? If he never curses, fine. It doesnt hurt me a bit. If he never loses his virginity, how does this affect my life? If he never tastes one sip of alcohol, this affects me how? He marches to the beat of a different drummer, but he is a nice, nice guy.
WarGamefan93 10/14/2004
Let's see where to start. crap, crap, crap, dumb, annoying, mean, and ignoring. People rate RIAReviewers better than this person
Darkness302 08/29/2004
Hes mature enough to be immature. Leave him be, he's cute. *Glomps Sean* ^_^
minkey 08/19/2004
Classic's just trying to be a good guy. He tries real hard and is very vocal and sometimes appears pushy. But the bottom line is he thinks the world would be a better place if we are aware of alcohol's troubles, cut down foul language, be polite and treat people with respect. Good things are gonna come this guy's way.
BeatlesfanStev eo 07/11/2004
seems like a smart reviewer, he seems a little immature, but every one is alittle immature at times.
ClassicTVFan47 07/05/2004
I would like to thank reviewers like Redoedo, JonTheMan, Creamy Goodness and BugahaNE for their supportive comments. They might not agree with me, but that is not important. What's important is that they were nice. You see, I'm not some neo-Nazi trying to take over the world. In fact, I want to be a weatherman (have since Kindergarten, believe it or not!). I just believe that people should be decent and respect others and treat them with dignity. I don't use profanity because so many of peers use it--and for what--the extent to which they use it makes its ineffective and generally useless. It also seems very crude and disrespectful. My high distaste for alcohol and drugs stems from the fact that I've had relatives that drank and did drugs--and have seen what it does. I also have an incredible amount of respect for the fairer sex, which explains my distaste for rap music (some of which, horribly demeans and objectifies them). I might not be able to MAKE people change, but I can hope that they do, not for me, but for the betterment of mankind. And, yes, I may be naive, but ok, I'm naive. These days, optimists are in short supply. And, what's so wrong with liking Pokemon and Star Trek? :) Hate-filled punks like JKooks and Irishgit certaintly aren't going to make me change my ways. And, now, I'm a Top 25 reviewer!!!! Mind-boggingly enough, some people don't believe that I want people to have fun. Let's see...I enjoy video games, some television shows, board games, some sports, clean jokes, safe parties, getting together with friends, some forms of shopping, some foods, drawing--come on, there are millions of ways to have fun without breaking the law, acting recklessly, or disrespecting others! In response to scarletfeather's updated post...I am currently in college now, a community college. In fact, people are more open-minded there than in high school. Its the first time that I could mention Star Trek or Pokemon without someone in a group blinking an eye. I've also been described as very funny, intense (in regards to my concentration during class and dedication to schoolwork) and very intelligent.
jagman28782 04/02/2004
I heard what you said about me. It was sad. I would share one of my sexual references, but iI don't want to offend you.*Update* ClassicTVFan isn't such a bad guy. I've been agreeing alot with what he has had to say recently.
scarletfeather 03/26/2004
He's just a kid. 20 years from now, he might be a completely different person, so give him a chance. UPDATE: ClassicTVFan47, I'm a little worried about you, because if you are 18 years old, that means you are probably going to college next fall. For your sake, I hope you plan to attend a small fundamentalist Christian college. Otherwise, be prepared for a shock. I'm speaking from experience, because when I went away to college I was as naive and sheltered as they come. I'm afraid you may not find a lot of kids who share your wholesome family values. I'm not saying that you won't meet some kids who are clean-cut,but the first thing on many college kids' agendas is to have a good time. I'm not urging you to change and become a wild and crazy party guy, but I am cautioning you that you may see some things you won't approve of, and that you will probably meet some people who don't share your views.
abichara 03/01/2004
Hey, I don't agree with many of his opinions, but at least they're interesting. Somehow I don't imagine the local weatherman becoming a Hitler-like figure, so maybe we should lay off on CTVfan, he just has his way of seeing how the world should be.
RunsWithWhiteW olves 02/23/2004
I dont thick this guy is Christian he sounds more like a mormon.
StanUzbeck 02/15/2004
I like CTVFan. His opinions are sometimes silly and a trifle reactionary, but he takes our abuse and still maintains the same upbeat attitude. He puts a lot of thought and effort into his personal weblists, which I can admire. He is probably the most often attacked reviewer on this site, but he doesn't retaliate, he just goes on to the next thing. I think he's immature and ignorant, but he's probably a great kid.
oldiesmusicfan 101 02/05/2004
In a lot of topics he has weird opinions, in fact I disgree with a lot of them. He is quite funny, though sometimes I think he is trying to be serious. He has odd opinions but almost all off them are worth reading, because they are a comic relief to much of this site.
andyjay 01/29/2004
Yeah, we're all entitled to our own opinions, but it's still kind of scary to me that there are people out there who also believe in his kind of crap. Learn some history kid; the main reason I don't support gun control is because Prohibition was a colossal failure. Sorry about increasing interregional antagonism, but I think Prohibition was more popular in the North than South (it was passed by Pres. Warren Harding of Ohio and carried on by Calvin Coolidge of Vermont and Herbert Hoover of Iowa), plus the South of course has a long tradition of making alcohol, particularly whiskey and mint juleps.
CherrySoda99 12/16/2003
I must say that, I really never agree with his opinion but, all in all, as I was doing some thinking, that he's really not a half bad guy. His comments could keep me amused and interested for hours. He really has a cool mind. I like that he's a Trekkie. And that he likes Voyager. I would say that the only thing that I can see bugging people, is that he's not a big fan of anything that is not family friendly. Which, I guess is understandible. I'm not a big fan myself. But maybe he could lighten up a bit, and take other peoples opinions into consideration about the subject. Talk to ppl. Instead of thinking that they are bad because they watched a PG13 or R rated moie. I must admit that some of the best movies are PG 13. Although, I don't see why they must put stuff in them that make it PG 13. Like sex and swearing. But all in all TV fan is a nice guy, and I enjoy reading his reviews. Keep up the good work.
Redoedo 12/14/2003
I confess to getting annoyed by ClassicTVFan47's naive and narrow-minded views, but he is not a hateful person and is not a bigot. He is not a cheater. Therefore, he should not be rated below people who are. Face it, ClassicTVFan47 provides some entertainment and spice to this site, and I feel that comparing him to Hitler is going a bit too far. Not once has ClassicTVFan47 said that if he were President (you can verify this by reading his post) that he would eliminate MTV or rap music. What he has said is that he would like to see it eliminated- that is one of his hopes for the future. I believe that TVFan wishes that people would CHOOSE not to listen to rap music, and not to watch MTV. He has never advocated taking away the freedom to do those things. Comparing him to Hitler is completely uncalled for, and frankly, I am appalled. TVFan just has a naive vision for the future of the world, and is a person who sustains himself by maintaining high moral standards and a firm believe that this Earth could be a better place. So, to those who spew nothing but insults to this naive, but harmless chap, lay off already!
BIGBABY 11/22/2003
I disagree with most of what he says. With that said, I do not think he deserves to be at the bottom, where racists and frauds are rated higher. He is narrow minded and hates profanity, so what? He does go to extreme every now and then, but he dosn't seem like a racist or anything too bad. Plus, he's never messaged me before. I'll give him a 3.
tvtator 11/20/2003
I don't dislike CTVF47. Damn, I think I'm more amused and fascinated by him. I've never known a person so young be so uptight about any curse word. I've also never known someone to live in such a rigid fantasy world filled with Star Trek and Pokemon etc. There are times when I actually agree with him. I like some of his lists, but he censors them if sh-- you use what he deems as profanity. Some of his reviews, and he has the right to them I just want to say what color is the sky in your world? Still one thing about RIA is all the interesting personalities and he is certainly one of them.
BugahaNE 11/11/2003
I don't know what comments you all are reading of his that you don't like. I think it's refreshing someone of his age that has the decent morals he seems to have. His comments are intelligent and well-thought out. Hey the average comment by an 18 y/o on this site is if you don't like Eminem you suck !!!!! He is a huge step over them. And he likes Waffle House and Chick-Fil-A. Awesome !!
Creamy Goodness 11/08/2003
I'm giving this guy a five because he is right at the bottom of this list, below a racist among others. What for? He's a little naive and he chooses not to indulge in all of our guilty pleasures. Well I say good for him. It takes a strong character to hold your head up high against all the nay-sayers here. As long as he isn't breaking any rules, I don't see him being a harm to anyone. I probably wouldn't give him a five normally, but I do think that he has been short-changed. He doesn't deserve to be rated last, that's for sure.
kolby1973 11/07/2003
As I said on the list makers list..I do not hate tv fan, in fact I sometimes think his reviews are funny. I also don't find anything wrong with his dislike for profanity, however his need to censor people so much is highly annoying. I wished he could learn to be more tolerant of other people as well. But in any event, I do wish the kid a good future.
forgotten hero 11/06/2003
I have no interest in this sad little man's view of the world. The constant Star Trek references are very annoying. I feel sorry for anyone that has to either work or live with this guy.
LadyShark4534 10/29/2003
Lately All I've done was bicker with ClassicTVFan47. Then we did talk and I realized he isn't that bad. He's entitled to his own opinions and overall, He's a lot much nicer than Dentana was. Very civil in leaving private messages. Which is something I can't say for Dentana. We may disagree all the time, but I've had some nice conversation with ClassicTVFan.
HereSheisMilk 10/06/2003
So ignorant. Just so unlikable. No wonder he's rated so low on this list.
help me 10/05/2003
i pity this loser. he's going to have such a hard time out in the real world. he needs to realize our world isn't like a 50s family friendly sitcom where everybody's happy and greeting their neighbors and smiling. it never has been nor it will ever be. so get your head out of your ass, classictvfan, and open your eyes.
twinmom101 09/17/2003
I wasn't going to comment until I saw what he wrote about DickDirk on this reviewer list. Just classic. I have nothing against this kid, I'm just afraid that he's going to get eaten alive when he gets out into the real world.
ErictheFederal ist 08/19/2003
Racist? At least very close...
JKooks 08/18/2003
Thank you, Magellan. Thank you very, very much. You are thus far the only other RIA user who seems to recognize this. ClassicTVFan47 has been a frequent target of my rants, often becoming (to his credit?) more the focus of my comments than the initial item in question. Say what you want about me - I know I'm a complete asshole because I swear and don't believe in God, whatever - but this guy has some serious hangups, most notably the swearing thing. I haven't even looked at his User Page in a while (for the simple reason that I run into more than enough moronicism at work and elsewhere), but I can recall that when I did view it I was overwhelmed by this guy's pinhole-sized view of the world. I've encountered all manner of humanity, but never in my life have I encountered such a, uh, complex. This guy makes Ned Flanders look like Andrew Dice Clay. This guy is such an extreme, orthodox, anti-swearing Nazi (no, I'm not suggesting that he's anti-semitic, it's just an analogy, so you kneejerks can sit back down, now) that he slams so many doors in his own face because he gives a handful of words (that were made up!) waaaaayyyyyy too much credit - anyone looking for more on this can look over my comments on Swearing (Features > Unique Features > Bad Habits > Swearing). This little quirk only serves to severely limit this individual's experience of the world. And it's too bad, too, because there have been times when I have been oh, soooooo close to agreeing with ClassicTVFan47, just waiting to see if he can close the deal with something a bit more substantial than language, but to no avail - the swearing thing is the dominant force in his opinion-forming process. I would like to see him say that The Real World or Survivor is without merit because they are scripted, overly-voyeuristic, juvenile, worn-out, etc. and not because the casts of said programs drink, smoke, or curse. [Update] Okay, now I have taken the liberty to view ClassicTVFan47's User Page and I noticed that he cites 1985 as his birth year. If that is in fact correct, then it means two things: 1. That ClassicTVFan47 is the most stoic, uptight, and anal-retentive 18-year old in history, and 2. That given his alleged youth, there may yet be hope that he will get to experience a little more of the world outside of his Nintendo GameCube and Nick at Nite. Much like it doesn't do a surgeon (or his patients, for that matter) any good if he's afraid of blood, you're dead in the water if you think you can come into the realm of debate and ideas with such a debilitating fear of a few words.
magellan 08/08/2003
My only problem with this guy - and it's kind of a big one - is that any book, movie, song, that includes any kind of an expletive, or something that isn't family friendly is automatically trash in his eyes. Seems kind of closed minded to me. I guess we can agree to disagree, godamnit.
