 | irishgit (137) 10/09/2007 | The controversy is a little dated, but it still surprises me how much the "Robin Hood" image clings to this guy.
During his career, its not surprising that he had his share of admirers, with the fallout from the Civil War still a clear and present reminder to many of his neighbors, and the penny press working over-time to sell stories of exploits, real or preferably fictional.
Nonetheless, with the passage of time, one might expect a greater degree of objectivity to arise about this man.
However he started his career, and whatever his original motives, he quickly became a vicious hoodlum, responsible either directly or indirectly for more than a dozen killings.
And make no mistake. These were killings undertaken for the furtherance of greed, not from any altruistic sharing of wealth.
