I kinda like his meltdowns. UPDATE: As a Mac attack tribute, I will throw a tennis racket if anybody angers me this week...

I have McEnroe tantrums everyday. Especially when driving a car, and when something does not work. Gee i wonder how cranky he was as a baby!

I had no respect for McEnroe back in his heyday but I have a better understanding of him now than then. His passion for the game of tennis was the driving force that made him so volatile and so good. Whether he was right or wrong, Mac was one of the best players ever and his announcing during tennis broadcasts today ain't too shabby either.

Since we are talking about "the biggest jerk in sports", I'll assume we are discussing Johnny Mac as a tennis player ONLY...not an analyst (although, I do think he does an excellent job...but please go back to putting down Mary Carillo more)...and not as a talk-show host or pseudo-politician (Mac...please keep your mouth shut on politics). Anyway, while many considered him a whiner on the court...I loved watching the guy play and he kept matches interesting for many reasons. He added a bit of the WWF to a very "gentlemanly" sport. Love him or hate him, people watched him.

As I view sports in entertainment terms mostly, Johnny Mac's on-court antics were as colorful as they were brutally over-the-top. As a player of immense talent, today only Roger Federer can emulate his touch, flair and finesse around the court. Even more, he's also an insightful, no-holds-barred tennis commentator. But IMO, his biggest mistake was off-the-court; the Johnny Mac Show was little more than a partisan cheerleading venue for the Bash Bush 2004 Campaign. Rarely have I seen such television bias, and IMO, this no doubt hurt his ratings. So yeah, McEnroe, you're a pretty big jerk - both off the court and on, though IMO it still doesn't take away from what you've achieved in sports. Just stay away from the talk show circuit, mmmkay?

only in his private life and on the tennis court, otherwise seems very bright and articulate as a commentator and talk-show host.

Was a jerk, but not anymore. A very good and frank analyst on television.
