As glaring as the spitting incident was at the time, he has had many examples of selfish and boorish behavior over the years. A guy with his hitting and fielding abilities would ordinarily find a home somewhere but he has not. He's known as a selfish whiner and has never been shy about taking on teammates, managers and executives. He's finished now, having just retired from Tampa Bay (where he was traded this past winter) and they are not unhappy to see him go based on the fact nobody is trying to talk this 13-time All-Star into staying and helping this up and coming team to develop into a winner.
