Mr. Vice President-elect. He should be known as the moderate Democrat now that Sen. Joe Lieberman is an independent.
Bubba jr 01/16/2006
He is a Yes man to the far left wing. He bad mouths Bush to make himself more likable to the ultra liberals. He ruined Indiana's economy then went on to bigger and better things. Gore-like, just not as boring.

I'm a conservative. Evan Bayh is, for the most part, the kind of democrat I wish there were more of. He's moderate, reasonable, a fine public speaker, and is of high personal character. I disagree with a few of his policies, but that goes for virtually anyone. I hope that he wins the presidential candidacy for the democrats, because I wouldn't mind him in office at all. I would probably vote for him over some republicans, like John McCain.

Great Senator from Indiana. Even better as the governor of the state. He was the governor of Indiana for 8 years. All around amazing person.
Rathrnice 11/16/2005
I think the country would be served well by having politicians like Evan Bayh running the government. I have been impressed by his speeches and the way he represents Indiana. One of the few Democrats that are shining stars that can win both "red" and "blue" states.
JackCox 10/25/2005
A smart man, not an ultra liberal he has voted against Condi Rice and John Roberts but I think this was because he wanted to balance his record out by not appearing right-wing but rather moderate.

Evan Bayh pumped himself up in popularity as governer in Indiana by creating a bubble of outside investment mainly due to legalized Horse gambling, riverboat casinos and a state lottery. He left as governer with a $1.7 billion surplus (money not spent on infrastructure and education as was needed) and smelling like a rose. He left, the bubble has burst, Indiana is bankrupt, our bridges and roads are falling apart, schools are cutting programs and staff... and Evan Bayh is long gone. Sunburn doesn't hurt when you're playing in the sun getting it. It hurts in the evening at bedtime when you are exhausted. Hoosiers have been burnt by Evan Bayh and they don't(nor does he, I believe) realize it for the most part. But we are starting to wake up. Bayh is bad for Indiana, and bad for America. He wash raised in DC as a senator's son, barely flanagled residency in Indiana to be eligible to run for Governer and has since received most (over 60%)of his campaign $ from outside Indiana. (see: http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.asp? cid=N00003762) I have been a hoosier all my life. Born and raised in Northeast Indiana. I have bachelors degree and manage a business employing over 50 people. Believe me, Evan Bayh does not represent Indiana, or even Centrist political views. His father, the ultra liberal Birch Bayh, was defeated as an incumbant senator by DAN QUAYLE! Now Evan has to suck up to the out-of-touch elitist core that his father runs with to generate the $ and political clout to make a run at the White House viable. He has quit representing his constituency in Indiana because he doesn't need them anymore. Please don't vote for Evan Bayh.

Heard him speak at the National Convention and have heard nothing but good things from his administration.
GenghisTheHun 07/18/2005
He is definitely the Democratic rising star. He might get frozen out by the Hillary factor, however.
maikuhaiku 02/11/2005
Shame on obfuscation for letting your Neo-conservative bites reel out here. And you have the label moderator. Judging by your text, I'd say your doing a pretty lousy job politically-speaking.
Golden Bear 02/08/2005
Bayh in '08! The Democrats would do very well to nominate him, especially after last year's disaster, which proves a liberal Northeastern Democrat has no chance. So it makes sense to turn to Bayh, who was re-elected with 66% of the vote in conservative Indiana, and - more importantly - has a solid record as governor and senator. He may have poor name recognition, but that wasn't an obstacle for Clinton in '92...

UPDATE: His shameful vote against the confirmation of Condoleeza Rice indicates maybe he's not a moderate democrat, after all. Very foolish, made him look like a yes-man to the liberal wing-nuts like Boxer, Kennedy and Kerry. His nay vote assured her the highest total of negative votes for a Secretary of State in over 100 years, sort of like the first cannon salvo over the bow. ADDITIONAL COMMENT 1/27/05: Lance, Flick, we're gonna need another chair for Chalky. Are there any more cigars? ORIGINAL COMMENT 11/16/04: As of this writing, one of only two democrats in the top ten. The top 50 spots absolutely dominated by republicans with the most shrill, liberal democrats dominating the bottom 20% of the list. Evan Bayh has been a moderate influence in the Senate, following in his father's footsteps capably.
Kerry Zaputz 01/28/2005
What a disappointment he is. I thought he was a principled person who voted his conscience, but in fact, he's a sleazy pol who votes for political expediency. In voting against Condi Rice recently, he sucked up to the left wing fringe of his party and betrayed his constituency. Evan, you can suck up all you want to the Dean wing of the party, but you aint' gonna get the '08 nomination!
fierce_pajamas 01/28/2005
If the Democrats are smart they'll nominate him in 2008.
Chalky 01/26/2005
Bayh is exactly what the Democrats need right now.........plain and simple: a moderate........I'm a Democrat but not a liberal although the party gets stereotyped as such when phonieslike Kerry are nominated who aren't in step w/most things.........anyway, either Bayh or someone to his calibur gets nominated or I'm leaving the Democratic Party and never voting again........politics sucks anyway ;)

Decent for a Democrat, but that's not saying much.
callitdownthel ine75 11/18/2004
At this writing, if the Democrat want a legitimate contender for the 2008 Presidential race, they ought to turn to the highly respected and largely bi-partisan Evan Bayh. Modest and forthright, with a sense of both decency and common sense, Bayh represents what good is left inside the Democratic Party- a party which has been largely taken over by the likes of idiots like Barbara Boxer, Terry McAuliffe and Maxine Waters (all shrill politicians).
bibliophile 09/24/2004
Bayh is extremely intelligent, moderate and kind. He is highly thought of in Indiana politics. Has a great deal of bi-partisan support.
CastleBee 08/14/2003
Calm, intelligent, moderate, and appears to be very level headed. All good traits for leadership.
