As a pitcher in the 50's and 60's , Bunning was excellent, though I personally don't think he's worthy of The Hall of Fame. As a senator, I find the guy hypocritical. Here's a fellow who apparently was a leader in trying to get the reverse clause overturned, and he was active in union affairs. So why is it that this senator was rated the most unfriendly to the working man by the AFL-CIO?

He was a better pitcher than he's been a seantor, but basically he has been ok.

DUMB! One of the most misinformed and silly men in the Senate- 50 years living in the past.

I'm rating him as a 3 as I don't know too much about him as a senator (he'll get a 4 as a baseball player) and I want to submit a comment about him, but something is wrong with this guy. Mongiardo should have won. Bunning said he looked like Saddham or Saddham's son or something like that and then read his debate comments from a teleprompter and Kentucky STILL elected him!

Mr. Bunning is just about as conservative as a senator can get. Despite voting for the No Child Left Behind Act in 2002, he IS NOW voting to suspend most of its provisions, including increased funding for after-school programs. I know that money is tight, but why is money tight? A major part has to do with the War on Iraq and the War on Terror. However, credit also has to be given to President Bush's tax cuts. I supported President Bush's first tax rebate in 2001. However, we are in a war. The War on Iraq is costing us billions of dollars every week. Mr. Bunning has voted to cut veteran's benefits and military pay. However, Mr. Bunning saw no problem in voting for Bush's recent tax cut. It's common sense people- when we are entangled in a war, tax cuts just make no sense. We're piling up a huge national debt, and interest is going to continue to grow, and by the time this additional revenue that Bush is promising comes in, interest will have nearly doubled the debt from the War on Iraq alone. I have no problem with conservatives- I consider myself to be a moderate, and support certain conservative positions. I support tax cuts when the economy is flourishing. However, I do not support tax cuts when we are funding a war, not to mention a pro-longed occupation. I do not support tax cuts when it means cutting the benefits of veterans. Mr. Bunning has voted for all of these measures. So, while President Bush is holding his breath for the 2004 election and hoping that the tax cuts grow the economy and EVENTUALLY bring in the revenue he hopes, we are going to neglect the needs of those who have risked their lives for their country. However, Bunning has done an exceptional job at representing the interests of Kentucky's citizens. He voted for the recent energy package which will call for more research and development into clean coal technology and result in the creation of more jobs for Kentucky's citizens. Voting to eliminate the estate tax was the right thing to do- it was unfair to Kentucky's farmers. He supports drilling in the ANWR Wildlife Reserve in Alaska. I do as well. Oil recovered from the ANWR Wildlife Reserve could fuel Kentucky for the next seventy years. Bunning voted for the recent Medicare Prescription Drug Bill which includes a prescription drug benefit for many of America's seniors. While the bill certainly does not solve the problem of high-cost prescription drugs, it certainly is a start. Bunning has sponsered a bill designed to combat fraud and abuse of the Social Security system. I support a lot of what Jim Bunning has stood for and fought for. However, I question his principles when it comes to caring for our veterans and funding the Iraq War despite massive tax cuts. Nevertheless, Mr. Bunning has always stood his ground and put the interests of those that he represents first.
