UPDATE: Lott resigned from the Senate on December 31, 2007, to become a lobbyist in partnership with former Louisiana Democratic Senator John Breaux. Lott should easily be able to earn seven figures in his new vocation.ORIGINAL COMMENT: I think he was a good leader and got the shaft. His so-called friends threw him to the wolves for an incident where he was trying to administer some Southern hospitality to a man, who, like him or not, was a large figure in American political history.

Like shootin' fish in a barrell - Trent is an easy target. Sure you were just trying to make Strom feel good - the guy was so out of it you could have called him out on "Jim Crow" and he would have sat there drooling. Good luck in retirement Trent, I'm sure history will treat you with all the respect you deserve (sarcasm).

Deserves another chance, It was wrong what he said, I take him at his word he was just trying to be nice to Strom and I think he was screwed over.

He got screwed over, bad, apparently by Republican insiders who wanted his job. In real-life he's been one of the historical leaders in the Republican Party on civil rights issues.
