Now here's a promising populist politician who let moonshine burn his brain out and became the poster boy for overstaying his time and becoming a horses butt.
GenghisTheHun 02/24/2007
Last of the old time Southern Democrats. The Senate needs a mix and since his retirement has less diversity.

Zell Miller exemplifies what is wrong today with the Democrat Party. He says he was born a Democrat and he'll die a Democrat. Unfortunately, he has alienated the party that he loves by speaking bluntly, in the enemy camp, about its shortcomings and those of its candidate. If, in 2008, Hillary Clinton wins the Democrat Party nomination, they will have learned nothing from 2004 and she will be swamped in an even uglier and more embarassing campaign. If the primaries come down to Bill Richardson against Evan Bayh, they have heard the wake-up call, clarified by Zell Miller's speech at the Republican Convention 0f 2004. My money is on Hillary as the nominee for 2008. UPDATE: Evets, you make such a strong point. I agree.

How did this dumb idiot get to be a Democrat? If he were from the Left Coast they'd have sent him home to the South where he belongs. You know his ancestors owned slaves and he's one of America's biggest religo-crits that exist today. How sad that so much of this country buys in to this kind of sell-out. Get a life America. I'm tired of this country being so full of dumb asses.
SZinHonshu 08/31/2005
In much the same was as Larry Elder will never be forgiven by a section of society because he is a conservative with black skin, Zell Miller is personal non gratis (grata?) with a large number of Democrats because he dared to publicly tell everyone the truth about what his party has become. The race baiters, obstructionists and European butt kissers didn't like his convention speech one bit.
James76255 08/31/2005
Became a Democrat before the party became the joke it is today. Is one of the last politicans, from either side of the aisle, that puts what he thinks is right ahead of party lines. One added bit: I would like to know how someone can see the future and tell that Zell Miller's descendants are going to own slaves.
Republican2024 07/16/2005
Awesome! Run for President!
kar54 06/02/2005
Go get 'em Zell!

Thank goodness.
celticprince 04/30/2005
It just goes to show you that any one can be elected to office in the USA-and Mr. Miller goes to prove this- a man of no values and incredible stupidity.
caligula 04/19/2005
Equated debate and offering an alternative to the current president with treason. What is this, a dictatorship?

Miller started off fairly level-headed but towards the end of his senate career he was fueled by hatred and bigotry. I was only too glad to see him go.
Feef 02/21/2005
Is there anyone who rated Zell highly and has travelled outside of the USA?
maikuhaiku 02/11/2005
Among the biggest traitors in American Politics, yet still sticks with his party, spewing out spiteful rhetoric, hatred, and misinformation. Time for him to seek counseling or therapy.
thedude25 01/31/2005
I challenge you to a dual!!! This mentally unstable idiot tried to take credit for the Hope Scholarship while he in fact tried to block it! What an idiot.
37102002 01/30/2005
Glad he is gone. A disgrace to his party.
hermangwynn 01/30/2005
he would rank a five if he were not retiring.
Jar-Jar Binks 01/30/2005
LOSER! He better bolt out of the Democratic Party cuz he ruined it. He ruined my life 'cuz I have to live another 4 years under Bush crap.

Politician as entertainer.
middlefinger 12/18/2004
Miller should not ever be encouraged to run for President of this country. He's a whiner and a complainer who is obsessed with holding on to old, conservative ideals. I wish he could be put out of the Democratic party.
Bedford 12/10/2004
The one Democrat that would not scare me if he was President. A man of conviction.
Chalky 11/07/2004
you really can't blame him for speaking his mind........i'm a democrat, and voted for kerry but he was the wrong choice for the party so i can't blame zell for not wanting to be associated w/a mass liberal........being a democrat, is not about liberalism, i'm a proud democrat but not a liberal so i can kind of see where miller is coming from.
bibliophile 10/06/2004
This senator is for entertainment purposes only. Crazed, whacked out and fun to watch.

Zell Miller gave an impassioned speech. He spoke of patriotism and spitballs. He made the RNC uncomfortable with his rantings(did anyone else note some of the delayed clapping during his speech?) Zell is not the archetype of the Democratic Party. I'm not sure what went wrong -- not enough medication or too much? Who knows? All I do know is that his arguments were full of hot air and lies. Red-faced Zell spat out that Kerry voted against weapons programs like the B-2, etc. as though these weapons were for the our recent Iraqi occupation. Nope. That was years ago. In the early 90s Cheney and Bush, Part One supported a reduction and/or halt in defense spending measures. Kerry hasn't voted against a Pentagon appropriations bill since 1997. Don't believe me? Read it for yourself: http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=252 and http://www.c-span.org/executive/transcript.asp?cat=current_event &code=bush_admin&year=1992

One story attributed to Zell Miller is about the time he found poisonous copperhead snakes in his garden. Being the family man he is, he was caught in a little dilemma. Should he let the copperheads live, thereby appeasing potential animal activists? Or should he slay the copperheads with his shovel? Despite earning the wrath of animal activists who later heard about his deed, Miller reasoned to them that he picked the latter because of the potential threat of having these snakes possibly hurting his wife and grandchildren who often went to the garden. In any case, I feel this illustrates the essence of why Zell Miller is so respected by so many Americans. Moreover, Miller has shown why he is an excellent U.S. Senator in that he is willing not to tow the party line in favor of doing what he feels is right for his country. Whether a person agrees or disagrees with this man, he has an independent streak for which others from both parties ought to respect and admire.

Tratior. I you are a rePublican, go sit over with them. Don't try to have it both ways.
louiethe20th 07/07/2004
If all of the democratic party were like Zell, this country would be much better off.One of the few democrats that has his head on straight and his facts in line.
magellan 06/15/2004
I don't know anything about this person, but I'll give him some props for independent thought - I'm always a big fan of politicians who are able to say what they feel, regardless of the party line. I admire McCain for it and I admire Zell Miller for it (even though I don't agree with his viewpoint). Ironically Louie, you are applauding in Zell Miller the very same quality that you bash in Abichara. Or are you just applauding Zell Miller because he agrees with you?
jgls 06/14/2004
a senator unafraid to criticize his own party. evidently there is room for only one opinion in the democratic party judging from the negativity directed towards this honorable and decent man.
ButtonGwinnett 04/19/2004
FINALLLY, a man who thinks with his own brain and listens to his constituents. Party loyalty has done more damage to this country than it will ever do good.
Sundiszno 04/08/2004
Recently read Miller's book, A National Party No More. Some of it, in the style of any typical politician, is harn-tooting, but overall, if this guy were running as a senator from my state, I'd seriously consider voting for him. He seems to be a Democrat with old-fashioned Democratic values (which, I'm sure, rubs alot of people the wrong way). A Good Old Boy in the best sense of the phrase.
