Stevens, Ted (R-AK) 4

UPDATED OCTOBER 9, 2009: Ted Stevens was defeated for re-election in 2008 after all the dog sled vote came in on the strength of his corruption conviction. Then after it was all over, the government stated it was all a big mistake and threw out the case. The government discovered that the prosecution team was corrupt rather than Ted. Go figure.

ORIGINAL COMMENT 7/23/05: Resident curmudgeon, but highly effective.

Uncle Ted.  That sleazy, thieving, corrupt sack of crap finally got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.  Pardon me while I cheer.  I certainly hope they throw the book at this geriatric toad who should have been shown the door 25 years ago.  However, the voters of The Moocher State will vote for serial killers as long as they bring home the pork that grafter and tax cheat Sarah Palin hypocritically disdains, so he's had a long time to line his pockets under the table.  But, don't hold your breath in terms of his punishment.  He'll probably get a slap on the wrist, or Handjob Bush will pardon him.  However, it's up to the voters of Alaska to come to their senses, if they have any, and finally turn him out, since convicted felons are allowed to serve in the Senate.  They can't vote, but they can write laws.  That's just a tad, or in this case, a ted ass-backward.  Maybe it's time to change that rule, or cut the heads off of every person currently serving in the august body if they don't.  What was the height of comic hubris, though, was how Stevens insisted on a ultra-swift trial, figuring he'd be exonerated and then sweep to an overwhelming victory next week.  Well, he might win anyway, because those slackers and losers up there in Seward's Folly aren't too swift.  After all, their lone Representative in Congress they voted for is also under indictment, and their Governor, when she returns there next week after being crushed as McBowel's running mate, is likely to face impeaching hearings, attention by the IRS and other investigations regarding the building of her house and her relationship with Transcanada.  Alaska is nothing more than a frozen cesspool.  You have to wonder at this point whether it's worth it for this country to hold on to that useless piece of real estate and all its mentally retarded inhabitants.

I never knew too much about this crotchety old bugger until recently. His temper tantrums are hilarious. His disallowing the oil execs. from having to sware under oath recently was not handled very well. Afterall if they have nothing to hide (which I suspect may be the case) there should not be any problem. Was it Twain that said "If you always tell the truth you don't have to remember anything?" Try listening to this guy give a speech too. His voice cuts off abrubtly about every 2.3 seconds. Very difficult to listen to.
