I used to go to St. Augustine Beach a lot as a kid. They have the best beaches in Northeast Florida--good water quality and sand, although I'm hearing that the area is getting a bit overdeveloped. Of course, St. Augustine is also best known for it's old Spanish colonial quarter, which you've got to see if you're in the area. It was the first city established by Europeans in North America.

St.Augustine IS overcrowded, and the charm is gone. I grew up here and this area is completely overdeveloped and all about money. Just like the rest of Florida now, too many people. Greed has destroyed my beloved little town.

St. Augestine is cool, no other place in Florida like it. Loads of history with an atmosphere that feels like Savannah or Charleston. Great beaches that never feel too crowded. Definately worth a day trip.

Saint Augistine has some beautiful beaches, and they are not overcrowded by development or excessive tourism like other Florida destinations.
