01/18/2007 | The show was good while she was in it, but the "Sam and Diane" storyline was starting to get old. However, continuing it would have been better than the way Kirstie Alley stunk up the show after Shelly left.

03/20/2004 | It may not have done much for her, but I think this actually saved the show for a few more seasons. Mainly because the thing between Diane and Sam was really getting tired. Though she seems to have a limited range and appeal as an actress in general she did do a great job as Carol Brady in the Brady Bunch parody films.

03/02/2004 | Cheers ran from 1982 through 1993, and Shelley Long play Diane Chambers for the first five seasons (1982-87). It is my understanding that the cast did not get along for the earlier years, especially with Long, so perhaps it was no surprise that she left. Nevertheless, Long's chemistry with Danson was better than that with Kirstie Alley (her replacement). Northwithstanding Long's Emmy for her work on Cheers and her perfomance in the movie Nightshift (1982), her post Cheers work has been forgetable (eg Troop Beverly Hills (1987) and a few Brady Bunch films).

09/26/2003 | Cheers went totally downhill as soon as Shelley Long left the show. She was and is an excellent actress. However, had she not left the show, she probably wouldn't have made alot of good movies that she eventually starred in.

08/28/2003 | Actually, her leaving Cheers gave the SHOW a shot in the arm, but it killed her career. I think Cheers would have survived another 2 years max with the Sam / Diane storyline had she stayed. Sort of a catch-22 for Shelley, eh?
