11/29/2003 | What else can I say about this guy? DJ Shadow is a first rate musician. Words alone are simply not enough to describe the beauty of Shadow's debut full-length, Endtroducing - amazing stuff. The sampling is extremely obscure yet totally appropriate, and the overall feel of the album is 100% chill out/go cruisin' music. Anyone who disagrees needs to listen to Changeling while cruisin' around down town on a Friday night - perfect mood music. And while DJ Shadow is technically classified as instrumental hip-hop, the music he makes often crosses so many genre boundaries (hip-hop, rock, classical, jazz, soul, R&B, easy listening, you name it) that any easy classification is impossible. Anyone with an open mind who hasn't already picked this stuff up absolutely must get their hands on it.
