A strong leader at a critical time. A weak leader may have had each state becoming its own nation.

King for life or president for eight years. What would your choice be?

It is hard to overstate the importance of George Washington to the survival of the then young United States. Many historians have stated that no other individual could have taken this office at that time. Washington not only had the respect and admiration of his fellow citizens, but also that of his contemporaries in Europe and elsewhere. Nevertheless, his greatest achievement as president was probably setting the precedent of limiting the office to two full terms. A gentlemen's agreement that not only helped peacefully transfer power but also stood until FDR decided he was above the wisdom of this understanding, resulting in a Constitutional Amendment to legally limit the office. Nevertheless, Washington is generally (and correctly) considered one of the better presidents, so he isn't overrated nor underrated

Regardless of anything else he did or did not do, always be thankful that he chose to be our president and not our king.

George Washington held the country together after the Revolutionary War, but overall I feel he is a bit overrated.

This man stepped up to the plate and ensured the survival of a young and relatively weak nation. The greatest President our country has ever had.
