Often forgotten about now, he was a more than competent PM in the post-war years, pursuing a moderate-conservative course both at home and abroad. Aided by a booming economy and a media that was generally willing to overlook the business-as-usual corruption of the Quebec elements of his government.

- Eliminated war debt - Paved the way or implemented unemployment insurance, medicare, old-age pensions. - had Canada take a lead role in the UN and NATO following WWII -Established the trans canada highway and the St Lawerence Seaway -brought Newfoundland into confederation -appointed Vincent Massey Canada's first Canadian-born Governor General - A genuine man who took the job out of a sense of duty and responsibility, not to satiate some need for personal power.
