Wheather you are christian or jewish, muslim or budist no one can ever just put that crap behind them. This boy was killed, slane, stuck down to early in his life. Hate people for what they do, not who they do.

what happened to matthew shepard is horrifying and incredibly sad. he was a very good person and his death has (hopefully) opened up some eyes to prejudice and what it can do to our country. I know it didn't enlighten everyone though, because it was absolutley disgusting when people protested his funeral, it was the most disrespectful uncompassionate thing any group could have done.

I am a Christian as well and do support verbal expression, but these protestors crossed the line. It bothers me when Christians like this poorly represent Christ and His teachings. I do not condone homosexuality, but these people had their son taken from them and were just trying to bury him in peace. Jesus said: If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her. - John 8:7 NIV. No, Matthew Shepard is not a role model for homosexuals, but niether are these protestors for Christians. UPDATE: I have just done some research and have discovered that the Westboro Baptist Church is more of a radical cult than a church. They run a website called godhatesfags.com that is completely dedicated to the hatred of homosexuas. Take a look around their site. It's pretty scary. This doesn't surprise me though. Anybody who would protest at a funeral is pretty off anyway.

As a Chrisitan, I cannot condone homosexuality, however, BECAUSE I am a Chrisitian I cannot condon murder. I've said it time and time again: express yourself verbally but don't ever physically hurt or injure another human being because you disagree with them. Also, MilkShakey04 makes a point on how the Westboro Baptist Church has conducted itself in a very shameful manner. Please don't think they represent all Chrisitans!

First of all I don't think anyone should get what he got for ANY reason. But I also don't think he should be the deified icon that he is today. I mean how many other people have died for more noble causes throughout the years that don't get half the recognition this guy does?

Poor poor man. He didn't deserve what happened to him.

I don't know that Matthew Shepard was a martyr, but I do know that he was a good role model for other gay people and straight people alike ! Everything he ever uttered before his horrible murder was fair and totally true. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He loved people and life itself. It is too bad he was murdered for being gay by a couple of drug addicted latent homosexuals. Matthew Shepard's message will always be strong. We miss you Matt !
