An important thing for all Americans, not just politicians, to remember. Politicians, especially, however, have a tendancy to try and be all things to all people, and our wallets are thinner because of it. All too often, the government is looked to as the solution to every problem that faces this country, and I just don't see a bunch of corrupt politicians truly trying to solve our problems. Usually they are out for their own personal gain. It's well documented that the major difference between the two parties is that the Democrats advocate tax and spend and the Republicans advocate cut and spend. Most Democrats wanted to take that huge 2001 budget surplus and devote it entirely to new spending and new programs, rather than sending it back to those that put the money there in the first place. Keep in mind what the definition of a surplus is: more than is needed or required. This fit's right in line with this quote. For those of you who see the government as the solution to everything, remember that the larger the government gets, the less fiscally responsible we become, and someone's going to have to pick up the bill.

I suppose this is always true, I suppose this might tie in with the old Buddhist axiom Life is suffering and the cause of suffering is desire.
