This is a saying that's pretty well coming true. War is nothing new, and people's lives are being destroyed every day on the account of it.

Saying such things can be the very death of a politician.

I'd argue that most wars are completely unnecessary and can be resolved through clear communication and compromise. Some can't be avoided, but that's rare. A lot of times, the underlying motive is greed of some sort. That seems to be the root of most sin, when you really think about it...

The end of mankind may come sooner than later.

this is one of those facts everyone knows but we'd be crazy to think we will ever cease to have wars. sadly it will take the end of mankind to end war.

Very true. War, poverty, ignorance and disease are all the common enemies of man, but only war itself has the power to destroy all of mankind.
