Cox is a moron, why is James still in the game!! He has no clue when to pull a pitcher!! Good job buddy
rboss64 06/30/2007
Once great but is just losing interest.
irishgit 06/22/2007
Grossly over-rated. Can't win the big ones, and one Series ring to go with twelve, count-em twelve division titles is proof of that. The Braves need a new look, and Bobby should take it down the road.
Skinnydude 06/22/2007
BOBBY COX is a great manager. There are very few that could come close to his accomplishments in the big league of winning every year. Im a Cub fan and would love to have had a gritty no nonsesne players manager. Now im not saying he could overcome BARTMAN or A GOAT CURSE in chicago. But this guy is HALL OF FAME MANAGER. If you rate him less than a 4 you simply dont know how hard what he accomplished is.They didnt get enough world series titles but Most teams never have a prayer in squadering thos titles. Tough as nails.
minkey 05/31/2007
The news all over the Atlanta papers is how Bobby Cox is closing in on the all-time ejection record by a player or coach. He's got 130 and the leader, John McGraw, has 131. I was fortunate enough to see number 130 on Saturday's game versus the Phillies. I was sitting along the 3rd base line and someone from the Braves hit a ground ball up the first base line that just missed the bag, and from my angle in clearly looked to be foul, but from Bobby's angle it was close enough to argue. He came out and just kept pointing at the supposed mark of the ball on the foul line, and sure enough, he got tossed. That's his style; he usually avoids the tyrades but is quick to jump off the bench and point out when he thinks an ump blew a call, and he will keep arguing until he gets tossed. The players love it; they know he is watching every pitch, and it's frustrating for a player if thier manager won't get out there and stick up for them. That's never been the case with Bobby Cox.
Ben999 02/13/2007
won the NL east division with the braves 14 straight years. Always seems to bring the best out of his players and all his players seem to love him. Can't expect much more from a manager.
fillup926 06/08/2006
He is one of the all-time best managers in the history of the game. The Braves will never be able to replace him.
doobiesNhof 03/14/2006
14 straight division titles and 3 Manager of The Year Awards speak for themselves!!
Chalky 12/23/2005
a model of consistency, just surprised he didn't win more world series plus atlanta has a great farm system
SoulSaxy 08/09/2005
This year Bobby Cox has done his best job bringing along good young talent as he has always done these last 14 years. Going for 14th staraight Division Title deserves rating of 5.0 even over any manager including my favorite Joe Torre. I admire his managerial success over the years without as much talent as the Yankees.
HuskerBeliever 08/01/2005
Year in and year out, this man proves he is still the best coach in baseball. Will the braves ever NOT win their division???
kingguiness 06/28/2005
He's able to win despite losing players. Able to rebuild and adapt to whatever situation comes his way. Unfortunatley they always choke in the playoffs. I dont see this trend ending anytime soon. A guy who can get it done during the season but chokes in the playoffs.
alpepper 06/22/2005
LaRussa and Torre are better. Cox is good but not great. I credit him for taking the Blue Jays as well as the Braves to the Post-season. But the Braves have had a constant influx of incredible talent since 1991. Yet all he has to show for it is ONE World title in a strike-marred season. The Braves have become so pathetic in the post-season, that I call them Baseball's Bye Week. They let every stinky-dink team Beyotch-slap them in the NLDS. The Cubs actually won their first post-season since 1908 at Braves expense. The 'Stros won their only post-season at Braves expense. I saw them literally not even show up one NLDS where St. Louis creamed them in 3 straight. The Braves are in striking range for another division title this year. But I guarantee every other playoff team prays they play the Braves in the NLDS. Great Regular Season Manager. Hah. Ask Eagle Fans what they think of Andy Reid -- the NFL's equivalent to Bobby Cox.
mex 06/22/2005
best ever regular season manager
dm3218 06/16/2005
All of those divisional championships. How could he not be the best?
dpostoskie 05/10/2005
Going on 14 straight Division Titles, those numbers don't lie. This guy really relates to his players.
alltalk 01/24/2005
Ok, people let's get real. Bobby Cox has seen his day. We talk about thirteen straight division titles, wow. That's great, no one has ever done that before, cool. Let's win the big game, but I don't the Braves can do it with Bobby Cox. He has had great players and as soon as they are traded their game picks up. That tells me Bobby has a problem with talent and most likely in the areas of how to use it.
coryw 10/29/2004
Cox is so good he's underrated. His coaching staff derserves alot of credit. Not much postseason success, but teams are built for the 162 game marathon and the postseason is such a sprint
BravesFan 10/21/2004
I hate it as much as anyone when they choke in the postseason. But, let's face it, THIRTEEN straight division titles!!! No one has ever done that before and probably never will again! That's a great manager. Any other team in professional sports would love to have Atlanta's record.
OneHungryMonst er 08/22/2004
How many consecutive division titles is it now? And they're still going? WOW!
fezzador 08/14/2004
He has to be regarded as one of the best managers/coaches in baseball, if not sports, history. Sure, he hasn't had a whole lot of success in the postseason, but winning a championship is more than a lot, and I mean a LOT, of people can say. And in 2004, when Atlanta is no longer viewed as a premier baseball power, they still have a solid hold for first place with lesser players, and you know it's the coaching that got them this far. Only one championship knocks Cox down a point, but that still doesn't take away the fact that he was an extremely successful coach and has the ability to make something out of nothing.
jamestkirk 05/12/2004
Sure, he's been blessed with great pitchers and players, but he has to be considered one of the very best because he has been in the playoffs for the last 12 years in a row. That's a statement.
Ninobene 04/13/2004
1-12 = overrated.
bravesarethebe st 03/02/2004
Bobby Cox dug the Atlanta Braves from nothing but losers to nothing but winners. Baseball has 162 games because it shows the true value of a manager. Anybody can lose it or win it in a 5 or 7 game playoff. But in 162 games it takes a great manager to keep a group of different personalities working as a team. Bobby Cox has shown that he has what it takes to lead a team through the highs and the lows. What everyone needs to remember is that You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, Bobby Cox get the Braves to where they need to be each year but he can't go out there and play the game for them.
slo_sk8t3r 07/18/2003
The main man and his staff, comes in to a struggling orginization and wins a dozen division titles and a ws surely is the best or atleast one of the best.
BravosFan8 06/29/2003
Bobby Cox is amazing. He may only have one World Series, but he has 12 straight division titles and is 1 of only 5 managers (ever) to win 1,500 games with one team. He may not do well in the playoffs, but in the regular season, watch out. I hope he can remain with the Braves organization for a long, long time.
bravesrockallt heway 12/03/2002
Boby Cox is the best thing that ever happened to the braves and you all know they would be lost with out him.. You all should bow tho the great Bobby Cox..
Jason1972 11/05/2002
He may dominate the NL during the season but during after September, I think he must forget to spit out the bones when he eats chicken wings because he, along with the team, chokes. True, he's had 12 quality playoff-bound seasons to how many World Series wins? one (vs. Indians '95). That's truly pathetic!!! Bobby, if you keep taking the Braves to the playoffs, start managing with your head out of your ass and stop letting down your fans, otherwise you and your team will always be the comic relief team and provide laughs for me during October.
charliethetuna 08/04/2002
This guy is really tough to rate. I could give him a 1 for 10 straight Division titles, but only one World Series ring. I could give him a 5 for 10 straight Division titles. But, this year, we're seeing a different Cox. Made Smoltz a closer and he may brake the ML record for saves. Platooning the Francos (Julio and Matt) at first base, and between them, they're having a great year. Bottom line, he's taking a decent team with a great pitching staff and has them playing the best ball in the majors. And, one way or another, he manages to do that almost every year.
tworebel 06/27/2002
He's the best coach in the business as of now. Check out the W/L column.
miklou 03/19/2001
Although I like the Mets and not the Braves, Bobby Cox makes good decisions and knows how to manage his team. Whenever his team wins, they deserve it.
NaderLover 02/27/2001
Bobby Cox beat my wife!!! Every time I see that pile of piss do an interview I want to reach through the TV and murder him. He should sell his ONE series ring and buy himself a friggin' clue. The only record Cox will ever set is most ejections for arguing ump's calls, a true sign of a retarded manager since arguing a call has NEVER, in the history of MLB, helped a team win, but getting yourself kicked out has certainly helped team's lose.
Johnny Roulette 01/07/2001
What has usually killed the Braves in the playoffs? Bad relief pitching, bad baserunning(Lonnie Smith & Chipper Jones), bad bench management, in short, bad fundamentals...it's a manager's job to have his team prepared and to make proper substitutions at the proper time. It's also his job as a man not to pop his wife when he's had too much to drink. Other reviewers are right when they say that the Braves would have more than one ring with Leyland, Torre, Alou, etc. On a lighter note, according to my math, even Cito Gaston doubled Cox's championship output. John Schuerholtz(GM) deserves the credit for building those teams, Cox deserves the credit for coming up short year after year. Let's see how bad Cox does with aged and reduced talent in 2001. Leo Mazone(pitching coach) deserves more credit than Cox for their regular season dominance.
maddmarxx 01/05/2001
If Felipe Alou,Jim Leyland,Dusty Baker,Joe Torre or even Tony Larussa had this roster for the last ten years,do you think the Braves would have one World Series ring?
enzo8791et 07/19/2000
Has had Arguably the best Talent in the Majors for 12 Years ... 1 World Series... How many Cy Young Awards just on pitching staff. Closer problems give me a break ... Now away from baseball a wife beater, drunk driver.. Bad.
Shafty 12/30/1999
Drunken wife beater has not won too many World series this decade. Come on - he is a crummy manager and blew some big decisions against the Yankees and Mets this year in the post season. Why the hell did he not put in a starter at the end of that marathon game ahainst the Mets? he was preparing for the next game? c'mon - that attitude is why you have not put too many series rings on your fingers in the past 10 years.
nwc@751om 11/29/1999
I always thought that this guy was overrrated ... until this year. Without his best hitters (Lopez and Galaragga) and his oitching staff underachieving, they still managed to win more games than any team. His only downfall is that he does not do well in the playoffs.
abox653om 11/13/1999
Excellent manager, but he is no Joe Torre (as this year's series confirmed). All those wins over the last 10 years are nice, but I would get a lot of wins too if Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, etc. were pitching for me.
DREW505OM 10/30/1999
He is the Best Coach
GS01498DU 10/29/1999
Bobby Cox is an excellent manager. He has really helped us in being the best team in baseball this decade
T_WH197OM 10/26/1999
He brought the Braves to where they are today and I believe he will keep them there.
YARD163OM 10/26/1999
Bobby Cox is doing a wonderful job of keeping his team in the NL championship over the last 9 yrs. Especially this year with all of the injuries that have occured amongst the braves this year. He has made very good decissions throughout the years.
