The Breakers is quintessential Newport. You can literally smell the money from the gates, lol! The mansion is quite fascinating and provides a really nice history of the Vanderbilt family! The details are insane in this place so make sure to look at every inch! Also, make sure to hang out on the lawn that over looks the ocean as it is a great view!

I enjoyed my visit to this cottage a few years ago. It was beautiful - but kind of cold and austere; a little too much marble for my taste. One of the best parts is the childrens play house not far from the front entrance, which was almost big enough to use as a vacation home for a small family. Unfortunately, I can't think of the tour without the memory of this little girl who about 10 minutes in asked her mother if she could use one of the bathrooms off an upstairs bedroom. When her mother said no, she proceeded to scream her lungs out for the rest of the tour. They definitely should have been asked to leave but werent.

The Breakers or Biltmore? It's to hard to choose.

I highly recommend The Breakers. It is the architectural masterpiece of the Gilded Age. I recommend Rough Point if you have the time and money, but the tour is rushed. I don't recommend Belcourt Castle. The condition of Belcourt Castle appears not fondly thought of and cared about by the owners and staff.

The Breakers is more than worth the price of admission. Rough Point, The Elms and Marble House are a must see. Avoid tourist traps Astors' Beechwood and Belcourt Castle.
