Only second to New York and Boston, this is one of the best rivalries in baseball. One of the true classics.

It's one of the big ones. My guess is that it must have started in the late 20's- the Cardinals were usually among the worst teams in the majors up until the 20's, and the late 20's and 30's is when both teams were usually perennial contenders. Since then, the Cardinals have won more Series than any other club besides the Yankees, while the Cubs have often followed up their good years with terrible ones- a wildly inconsistent bunch since WW2- but I've got to go with the Cubs because they are a very human team while for some reason , for me, St. Louis- sometimes- epitomizes the cold, calculating, efficient and successful but sometimes flavorless team. Bring back the Browns!

More of a rivalry in the Midwest than on the coasts, but still fun to watch.

Pretty vehement, although diminished due to the Cubs all to frequent second division finishes. Ask a Cubs fan what they think of the Cards, and the phrase rat-bastards is likely to come up.
