Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Board of Education (1971) 1

There is no constitutional justification for forced busing. One aspect of government school I really dislike is the idea that a person should be forced to go to a certain school based solely on where they live. As a former employee of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, I can tell you that this ruling made education in Charlotte worse for everyone involved, regardless of race. So I guess it did begin equality in eduaction - equally bad education.

Shouldn't students be able to transfer to a different school if they want?
