This book is a literary masterpiece. Regardless of age, the symbolism is a good tool to use and derive from the text. I have read this book over 50 times and still havent picked everything there is to from the book. Just because Chapman was obsessed with this book doesnt make it bad. Hinkley loved Taxi but does that makes Jodi foster bad or the movie bad? Dont ever let other people's opinions sway yours.

Like a lot of people, I first read this book in my teens, and thought it was great. I read it again as an adult, and thought far less of it. Nonetheless, it is an important, if not brilliant work. The profanity is pretty mild, and the world-view is angst-ridden teen. Hardly worth banning, though I'm not surprised somebody thought it should be.

It's a good book- but not nearly deserving of the legendary status that it has. . .it's a solid post-modern work that deserves a place in the canon- but I can't rate it as high as some of the other masterpieces on this list.

I read this book and couldn't understand why it was required reading in some schools. Too me, it was not that special.

This is a very good book-for anyone to read, no matter what your age.But when it was revealed that Mark David Chapin, the assassin of John Lennon was a fan of this book, somehow that made me like the book less.

Definitely a must-read for adolescent males. I'm glad I came across it in 9th grade. But the endless GDs on every page got a little old. To say the least, it was still a heck of a lot more entertaining than 90% of the books you come across.

Terrific book. I again don't understand why it was banned anywhere. The F-word appears in the novel in exactly one spot, and it is handled in way that emphasizes the ugliness of the word. There are references to sex, but nothing remotely explicit. I also didn't find it to be 'Anti-Christian'. It was definitely anti-hypocrisy and anti-insincerity, but didn't seem to be bashing Christianity specifically, unless you count the number of times the Lord's name is taken in vain (roughly 17 times per page). This book is a revelation to the mostly 14 and 15 year olds who discover it for the first time, it certainly was to me.
