DENGUE...yet another reason for me to stay in the good ole US of A! I wouldn't be surprised if piss-poor sanitation and equally pathetic personal hygienic practices (in some countries) accounts for some of these diseases.

There are 5 versions of dengue. The one I caught in Honduras wasn't all that bad. Not much worse than a bad case of flu. I was in bed for a week and then woozy and wobbly for another week. I am now immune to that version. I can still get the other four.

This is another one where if it doesn't kill you, you'll wish it had. Also known as Breakbone disease because the muscle and joint pain is so bad, it feels like your bones are breaking. This illness was common in the Black Swamp region of Northwest Ohio until the swamp was drained and it killed many frontier families. I knew someone who got this while he was in China. He said if he ever gets it again, he will shoot himself dead at the first symptom.
