Yes, this is an excellent adventure movie because its realistic and full of hot action. However, creating darker Bond they went too dark and made Anti-Bond. First, hes the rogue agent obsessed with revenge which in my opinion is simply unprofessional. Second, the viewer does not want to be like 007 because hes having too much of a hard time. Bond movies were always about cool and easy - thats what makes them different.

A far better film than they had made in years although its less of a Bond flick than a cop gone bad drama. Too bad Timothy Dalton never got to work on an Ian Flemming based story.

It featured too realistic villains! These guys are just crooks and the plot, though believable is mildly ridiculous and too small for a Bond film. Bond is played out like a cold-blooded, malicious killer in this as there is no light-heartedness throughout the entire film. Joe Butcher pisses me off so his comedy is wasted on me. I was glad when Sanchez was killed, didn't mind Carey Lowell that much though.

A good movie overall but not the best Bond movie you'll see. I thought the whole revenge angle to the movie was quite difficult to come to terms with in a Bond movie. I do think that Timothy Dalton is a good actor who plays Bond pretty well. Some of the scenes in the fictional Isthumus City are good (especially at the casino). Overall a good movie but not a great one.

Licence To Kill is the second of Timothy Dalton's two outings as James Bond. In his first time out, The Living Daylights (1987), Dalton played a softer, gentler 007, but in this film he plays the role much harder and cold. This edgier portrayal is largely due to the storyline in that Bond is primarily out for revenge against international drug dealer Franz Sanchez who has seriously injured his friend Felix Leiter. The plot was (and remains) current today (ie no Cold War themes), but also forces 007 to act very un-British and out of control, as Bond essentially turns rouge agent. The result is more action and gore, but less campy humor and gadgets from Q. Robert Davi's portrayal of Sanchez proved to be excellent casting, and his character is omnipresent and real. With Sanchez, the viewer finally gets a villain that is believably mean and evil as his motivations (money and power) are familiar (though not admirable). The problem is that Licence To Kill just moves too far from the successful Bond formula to rate high when compared with the other movies in the series. In fact the film deviates so far that it starts to look like any other action hero film. On the plus side, the two primary Bond Girls are statuesque and receive relatively lots of screen time.
