Day of the Dead 5

A fascinating holiday. I've only seen it once and found it very interesting, and moving in an unusual way.

Day of the Dead 5

I really like the way Mexicans embrace death as a part of life, including the celebration of this interesting holiday. Instead of looking at death in a fearful, negative way, they have a good time with it- honoring lost relatives and thumbing their noses at death in a fun, lighthearted way. As a result, I imagine that people are much more comfortable with the concept in Mexico. My husband and I collect Day of the Dead folk art, and it's some pretty wild and crazy stuff. We're talking skeletons here- on bicycles, working on computers, getting married, etc. The gaudy colors and playful irreverence remind me to not take life too seriously.
