Adults are not qualified to judge Barney.  I hated him, but my son loved him, so who cares?  Besides, they made a big dump-truck full of money on that purple t-rex, so I gotta think there are some adults who think it was a damn good idea.

I have never been a fan of Barney, he is annoying and so are so kids who overact and mug for the camera. there are way better Children tv.shows than this one. will not give him the worst rating since he is intended for little kids. but Yuk!

I hate Barney with an absolute passion. I find his shows way to patronising, I can think of a dozen kids TV shows that are just as engaging, educational, interactive and fun. Barney sings a song about everything and the kids on his show are a bit too plastic and not real. I still say the best kids TV show ever was Sesame Street.

And he is still on television!

Here's one dinosaur long overdue for extinction.

Barney makes me want to pistol-whip someone. But here's a story about him that I think we should keep in mind. I was watching a show about how children respond to the programs on television, and they had a pre-school class sitting in front of a tv while their parents were watching them via close-circuit video feed. The first show the tots watched was the Power Rangers, and after the show was over the kids were going around kicking each other, even little two-year-olds who'd never been violent in their life. Their parents were shocked and didn't recognize their children's behaviour. The next show the kids watched was Barney, and after the show was over the children were singing some of the songs, and sharing their toys, and being civil and loving little tikes. So even though Barney is disgustingly hokey and sappy, his show is probably a much better influence on children than most programming out there. Remember, this show wasn't designed for adults, so don't watch it.

I think adults need to stop whining about this and get a grip. Barney was created for children and it wouldn't have sold as well as it did if children didn't like it. Not everything on this planet is for adults to enjoy...it isn't all about 'us'....

Kamylienne, you take words right out of my mouth! LOL. I occasionally watch this with my 10 month old girls. I think what appeals to them is the songs, high pitched voices and bright colors. Same concept works with the Teletubbies which seriously hynotizes anyone under 3 by using the same ideas. The bad thing about Barney is that it is so sappy and happy it makes me want to puke. The kids and Baby Bop are so annoying. I can handle Teletubbies, sometimes it's cute, but Barney is never cute. Never.

In my opinion, it's one of the worst thing to happen to children's television. The reason it doesn't get a full five stars is because, even though it sucked, it managed to make a LOT of money, so technically it was a good idea for those who profited from it.

Ted Kennedy is the worst idea of the 20th century. And Hillary is the worst idea of the 21st century. (Yes, I know this is supposed to be about Barney, another wierd character. But there was no provision made on this list for the truly worst ideas.)

I'd say this show was the worst idea.
