Overall Rating:3.73 based on 11 ratings
From Bush to Kerry, from red states to blue states, from Vietnam to Iraq, from Louiethe20th+GoneAway vs. Magellan+Scarletfeather, the months leading up to the election were very argumentative. Hundreds of comments issued all the time about the election and many weblists produced. (Add picture)

The part that amazed me more than anything was all the post election whining...on RIA and just about everywhere else. Blech, what a bore!

It was sometimes interesting reading from both the Republican and Democrat (and anything in-between) perspectives, but these discussions were nothing I cared to participate in.

I was looking for a forum where there was more to it than Bush Sucks! and Kerry Sucks! RIA, with its rules of engagement, and posters of all political stripes, became a great forum for airing of views by anyone with an opinion. It was fun to post an opinion and read the reactions to it, and to engage a few people, both publicly and privately, to clarify their viewpoints, and mine. It is also rare to find a place where you can thoughtfully and politely engage your polar political opposite in a civil exchange, in an attempt to better understand him/her. But this is such a place. Does everybody play nice? Well, no. But some do. Enough do.

Interesting for at least a while, I think this qualifies as one of RIA's most interesting issues for the year. Not that it wasn't building up from the past four years, but it got interesting as elections came underway. Mind you, interesting doesn't necessarily mean intellectual; we saw some pretty stupid comments from both sides here (gotta give RIA some credit, though; many other sites had much worse name-calling and cheerleading than here). As irishgit noted, however, the end got kind of tiresome; and, perhaps, somewhat ugly. Oh well, time to move on.

The best and the worst of comments to browse this year. Overall, great debates, often on highly relevant issues, which gave a good echo to prevailing media and watercooler discussion. Plenty of reviewers offered provoking insight to the year's campaign stumping, plus we had some eloquent reiterations of campaign talking points. Even when I came across a poster who seemed off base with logic, I gained a better sense of where different perspectives were coming from, which is something I've always strived to achieve with everyone.

Got a little tired towards the end. Seemed like both sides were just reposting, and not much new content.

I think I wasted too much time arguing politics. My guy lost anyway.
