Oh, how I loved these! Except for a few pre-made cheap-o Halloween costumes, most of ours (and our best ones) were of our own invention - evening gowns made from sheets, table cloth capes, long hair using a bath towel wig, old crinoline skirts as tutus, and miscellaneous odds and ends from the rag bag. For makeup I managed to procure some of the tiny samples from one of my aunt's short-lived Avon biz. Accessories and shoes were usually borrowed from mom's closet and jewelry box - when she was still at work that is!

I think everybody knows a kid that went through a costumed phase.
