Awww the gift that grandma and grandpa gives that MUST go home with the little one. LOL

My kids have them, and I think they're great. I don't mind the noise if it's constructive. But these are bad choices for toy drives. If they end up in the hands of a child of an abusive parent, it could be a very unhappy event. The fire department drives will often be very careful about where noisy toys are sent.

these are the best toys to buy your grandchildren but you have to send them home. it defeats the purpose of the purchase if they stay at the grandparents house.

The perfect gift for the child of the relative you don't like much, who lives far away.

I remember when my sister told me she bought my hyper-active four-year-old nephew a drum set. Fantastic way to channel his energy, caused havoc on his poor Mother's nerves.

I can understand that there are reasons not to get a six year old a drumset, but I started in band in the sixth grade and wouldn't trade my years playing my instrument for anything.

Musical instruments aren't toys by any means, but if a child (never too young!) is showing some music talent potential and is interested in some sort of instrument, he/she should be encouraged. UPDATE: And yes, the toy versions are good, too! May tend to get to the nerves, though...

When I mentioned this one I wasn't thinking of actual instruments, just the toy versions. When I was very young, I received a set from one of my aunts at a birthday party. After a lot of banging and clanging in our very small house I'm pretty sure my mother wanted to smack her sister to sleep for selecting that particular gift. It was a short-lived gift though because someone mysteriously stepped in the center of the it and totally ruined it. I always wondered how much my mom paid that kid to have that accident.
