Today is Memorial Day. A federal holiday set aside to remember and honor our fallen men and women in the armed forces. It now generally includes the various law enforcements and fire departments throughout the country. They died so that we can live like free men. Let's remember them. salute them, appreciate their efforts and most importatntly, don't let their deaths be in vain.

I personally throw a shot of some horrid nasty whiskey for my buddy that can no longer do so. One for me and one for Crunch, wherever he may be.

I tend to forget about it until I try to go to the bank or check my mail.

Summer!

It's so sad that the meaning of this holiday has been forgotten. Most see it as just another day off of work or school and a day for some good food. They forget to stop and recognize and appreciate those who have come before us and fought so bravely to ensure that we can be here to enjoy our day off and enjoy our cookouts. Considering were are celebrating this holiday today, I would just like to remind everyone to remember to take a moment to yourself or with your family to thank all of those who have come before us and served. They are all heros that live on in our hearts. The fact that our country is still strong after 225 years proves that their blood, sweat and tears were not shed in vein. God bless all of you, and Happy Memorial Day!

It's so sad -- I once asked my niece what Memorial Day meant to her and she said, "it's a day for memories and dad makes hot dogs while the band marches by." I never understood the significance of this day, either, until I got older and saw how many veterans came from my small town. As I sat in the cemetary with my family and listened to the names being called out, watched the flags being pushed into the ground near graves, tears came to my eyes and I suddenly realized the sacrifices made just for us. Seeing them in this light made those people who died serving our country so much more real. This day should be so much more than it currently is. . .

Memorial Day is a very important day for remembering all who have sacrificed their lives to fight for the right of freedom for people in the United States. Where would we be today if it wasn't for these selfless individuals?

I always go to cemetarys with my parents on this day. Remembering serviceman who fought for our country, plus remembering long lost relatives, most I never even knew. It helps you to find out a little about yourself and take pride in your country. An important Holiday.

Pretty sad that you have to point out each year that people unselfishly gave their life's blood so that we could live in freedom. And what have we done with it? It would be nice if we just appreciated it all the time and showed it in our actions and the way we live. But nooooo! I have never been surer that our society is crumbling to rubble as I am at this point in time. All I can think as I look around at our disgusting so-called culture full of bleeding heart idiot liberals, perverted entertainment, and overall ugliness is - so this what the men who marched off to the various wars fought to ultimately preserve. They must be spinning in their graves at an unimaginable rate. Yes, we remember, it's just that not many seem to REALLY care much.

I saw President Clinton deliver the annual presidential speech at Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day, 1997. It made me really realize what the day was about. So many people have given their lives in the name of our nation and they have not died in vain.

Same as what I said about Veterans day. Memorial day has become an excuse to barbeque. This is about paying respect to those who gave their lives for freedom. Listen to Crosby, Stills and Nash's "Find The Cost Of Freedom" and you'll understand this holiday a bit more. "Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground..."

Nothing fun happens on this day as a holiday, but I respect the cause.

For most people Memorial Day is nothing more than a day off work, a three day weekend, a day to party, etc. That is very sad. Most don't really even CARE what the real meaning of the holiday is. Come on, Americans, read your history books!

Please just remember what it is for... yeah, I know some people will say the official start of the summer season... but the real reason for it!
