Don't care one way or the other. I don't see why they should have to keep their ignorance any quieter than the average politician. (or RateItAll reviewer)

(Either/Or questions make it hard to rate) Not part of their job description so, an abuse of the privilege of their popularity. Keeping their opinion to themselves should be in each of their contracts (but then, what to do about it between movies?).

I am not interested in what they have to say, and I prefer they keep it to themselves. Yet, they do have the right to say what they want under the First Amendment, and many obviously practice this right to the hilt. However, it has to be addressed that Hollywood celebrities exceed this right and feel this need not only to be heard- they DEMAND to be heard and be taken SERIOUSLY- and will do anything to be heard even at events that ought not to be about THEIR politics. And woe to those who will not allow themselves to be enlightened by these self-loving, self-important celebrities; or worse of all: challenge their beliefs! It's so freaking hillarious! These Hollywood celebrities tell us, common folks, what we ought to do and believe in. They are so famous, and because of their status (in their conceited little minds), they know what is right for the rest of us. Don't even think of questioning their line of thinking because they are definitely enlightened over us (due to their celebrity)- and we are just too stupid to know better. Nevermind that they absolutely often have no knowledge of the issues, nor do they have any relevant or common experience to share with most Americans. It is up to them, the Hollywood celebrities, a higher life-form, to save us from destroying ourselves because they have all the answers to all our problems. The result? We have irrelevant morons such as Kathy Griffith (isn't her 15 minutes up?) and Michael Moore, who go to award ceremonies not only to reward themselves but to get more attention (as if they need anymore) and to openly insult what many of us believe in. Then we have quasi-intellectuals such as James Brolin who seem desperate for any attention, and on solemn days such as 9/11, trivialize the tragedy by insensitively saying 'Happy 9/11!' not only proclaiming it once, but twice to listeners at an east coast radio station. Finally, we have has-beens like Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte who bad mouth our country overseas while sitting next to the very antithesis of freedom, Hugo Chavez. Yet, these same clowns live better than most Americans, most of whom made their money from the very people they insult and piss on for their beliefs. Should we be interested? No. But all things considered, their 'stick-it-to-our-faces' approach is beyond annoying (freedom of speech notwithstanding). News to Hollywood celebrities: you aren't as important and beloved as you think you are. Instead, you are totally ANNOYING! Get lives and keep your opinions to yourselves! And don't be surprised if you get challenged for what you believe. Just because you are *ahem* important, don't think for a second you can just get away with it and not have people challenge you just like us, the stupid little people you feel the need to 'educate'.

I don't have a very high opinion of Hollywood at all. Just because celebrities make millions of dollars doesn't make their opinion better than anyone else's.
wmaden 09/15/2007
I have little to no interest to anything that bunch of idiots in Hollywood do or think. Why should I place any amount of importance in someone whose purpose is to try to portray someone or something they are not. What amount of actual intelligence does it take to become an actor or actress. I seriously doubt it takes very much, so why would I place any importance in what they have to say. Their main goal is to get themselves in front of a camera. Big Deal!!
JohnSpina 03/03/2006
When these quasi intellectuals open up their mouths,I am reminded of the old saying:'Tis far better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as a fool than to open it up and remove all doubt.A pack mentality invades a lot of their comments(Bush is a moron, etc, etc, etc).and woe to the celebrity who is outspokenly conservative(Thesefolks,of course, are really no better than the libs who yak their gums, but because there are so few right wing types in LaLa land,I shall save my venom for the loopy, loony limousine liberals of the land of fruits and nuts and frozen vegetables.)
numbah16tdhaha 02/27/2006
If they don't think their celebrity status makes their opinion more important than mine and they don't grandstand alot I'm willing to listen. I think by those criteria most celebs don't stand a with chance with me, though.
Molfan 02/27/2006
I would be willing to hear them out, but I would be willing to listen to people from all different walks of life. Just because they are a celebrity does not sway me to take a political stance or any other subject they be talking about. If I happen to agree with something they say, it is not because they are famous, they just might have similar opinions that I would have. I would not hang their every word, like someone who is star struck.
louiethe20th 02/27/2006
Why would anyone wonder about Holywood's political views? I can count on one hand those who are not left wing radicals.
earthbound 02/27/2006
Sure, we can say we just want to see them act, etc., but the best selling US magazines cater to those who want to read about their romances and wardrobe and that is a fact. There is a fascination there, and I am not fully above it, and that in spite of the fact that I have not watched TV in about 9 months. I am not that interested in their facelifts, Kabbalah, their personal trainers and their pilates, all of which are remote to me. If anything, I am somewhat interested in reading about their political views, because that is something that I can relate to at some level. I would like to think that it does not influence me more or less than any other person, whether the speaker is a celebrity or not, but in spite of myself, I find myself sitting up more if Salma Hayek is talking than Michael Moore.

Not really. . .there are a few (very few) artists whose opinions are interesting, but I want most of my artists to perform instead of expostulate. Then again, most people get angry because artists do not spout back the views that they wish to hear. Funny how people get mad at an artist because he or she does not validate your oh-so-important opinion. Hey kids, artists are supposed to challenge you, remember? Challenging a fossilized opinion is exactly what art is meant to do. It just doesn't sound right coming from many plastic-Hollywood types. . .
CastleBee 02/26/2006
They have as much right to yap about issues as anyone. But, regardless of the high regard most of these folks have for themselves, I honestly see no more significance in their opinions vs say, my vile ex-boss, religiously pious uncle or my dog's vet. My theory as to why celebrities feel the need to blow their mouths off more often is... 1. If they are at all successful, they have a built in soapbox. It doesn't matter if they open their mouths and spew brilliance or insert their foot - if the media stands to cash in - it WILL go out to the world. 2. They need to build their egos to such great heights to do what they do some have actually convinced themselves that the bigger the name the higher the level of intelligence - therefore, they are compelled to share with the lesser folk - noblesse oblige - if you will. That all might have flown during the Golden Age of Hollywood, but apparently less people are buying into it now. Perhaps we're evolving a little afterall.

I believe that Hollywood in general needs to grow a brain as to what it injects into the political process, not just a few actors and actresses. Good commentary is welcome, drivel is not.
SZinHonshu 01/03/2006
No. I want them to continue to spout their nonsense. One, they have every right to express themselves freely, and two, they keep helping the Republicans win elections.
singsplatsing 02/23/2005
90% of the actors who say their political stuff are terribly uninformed. How arrogant are they to think that just because they stand in front of a camera and read some lines that they know more about politics than our country's leaders? But I don't think that ALL celebrities should keep their mouths shut when it comes to politics, because there are a few of them that are actually well-read and informed. Those people are more than welcome to talk. But the idiot celebrities that don't know anything except the assumption that Republicans are evil homophobic Nazis should definitely shut the hell up, because they just ruin the reputations of themselves, the Dems, and SoCal.
Jar-Jar Binks 02/19/2005
Yes, I am interested. We are in a democracy. ALL people including celebs should have the rights to speak out on the issues. I like to hear from them, particularly Martin Sheen. When he speaks, I listen because he knows what he's talking about and I can learn something valuable from him.
jgls 06/12/2004
i am interested, but most of the time they sound as uninformed as everyone else.
Solenoid DH 06/03/2004
If he/she has something interesting to say, I'd be glad to hear it. But his opinion should carry no more weight than anyone else's. These people in Hollywood aren't any wiser than the rest of us.
RatFile 05/10/2004
for the most part, I'd rather listen to their opinions, that watch their work... I think anything out of Hollywood is generally.........the pits
Beloved 05/09/2004
free speech right
Redoedo 04/22/2004
Everyone has their opinion and the right to express those opinions. That includes celebrities. What I protest is celebrities who speak as bonafide political experts when in reality they know nothing about the real issues facing the country. Nevertheless, they are still entitled to their opinion, no matter how dimwitted some of them may be.
minkey 03/09/2004
Only if they are running for Governor.
tvtator 03/04/2004
I don't care about their political views. However we do have something in this country called freedom of speech. I happen to admire those who do speak out. Some celebrities are nitwits who don't know what they are talking about or just like to hear themselves talk. But some do have college degrees, and do keep up with current events, and do know what they are talking about. Sometimes they can present an issue better than a dull politician. Yes, some are loud mouthed arrogant hacks, but this is the United States and they do have the right to speak and to present their politics. Everyone does, no matter how intelligent or ignorant one maybe.
kolby1973 02/06/2004
Celebrities are human just like everyone else, and therefore are allowed to have their opinion as well. And yes, I am sometimes interested in what a celebrity has to say as they do have alot of power to sway the public one way or the other. I am not saying every single person does what a celebrity tells them to do..but there are alot out there that love their favorite stars and would probably do as they commanded. I think Madonna makes alot of sense when she speaks politics...she isn't as radical as some others...but her views are pretty cool...
Jed1000 02/04/2004
Am I interested? No. Not really. Do I think they should keep their opinions to themselves? No. No more than the rest of us. We all have the right to let people know how we feel. The subject is a big non-issue in my opinion.
LadyShark4534 10/18/2003
Personally, I don't care. I really don't think celebs like J.Lo, Madonna, and Ben Affleck would make good politicians, but hey, If they are willing to hear dissenting opinions, then why not?
RebelYell1861 10/15/2003
They should probably keep their ignorant, overpaid mouths shut.
twinmom101 09/17/2003
Sure they can speak their minds, but it's up to you as a person to decide if you will be swayed or not. Usually it's nothing original, just crap some influential person in their lives have filled their heads with which they in turn regurgitate in front of the media. Although Johnny Depp's recent comment was pretty original. Stupid, but original.
hendo 09/16/2003
Sure, it's interesting to know that celebrities are real people and have opinions, even if you don't agree with them. Whether it's Johnny Depp or Bill O'Reilly, I'd rather live in a world where celebrities have opinions instead of just going with the flow.
kamylienne 09/14/2003
Interested? No. I don't really care; if I disagree, I can always flip to another station or channel. Should they be silenced? No. Everyone has an opinion (well, almost everyone), anyone can feel free to share it--it doesn't mean I have to listen to it, or assimilate it into my own thoughts. Are people in Hollywood knowledgeable in politics? Not anymore than we are.
