That will be OK when if he is ever executed for his crimes against humanity.

Was around long before Bush's time. Check up on your facts, pal.

Geez, Jar-Jar, how about the 4000 Americans that have died today thanks to Roe v. Wade?
LanceRoxas 01/08/2005
This is just dumb- the death penalty is a state issue- just like it should be (and abortion should be). Bush chose not to usurp the authority of the people and executed the punishments as prescribed by law.

GoneAway, you can't really be suggesting a loving and forgiving God introduced the death penalty, are you? The two motivations are mutually exclusive. I don't see why anyone would support a fictitious God like that.. Update, this is where our interpretation of old passages in the Bible are twisted. No true God would institute a 'death penalty' on one of his creatures. Nor would a loving God allow a son of His to be whipped, beaten and crucified. Would you?

The death penalty is a state issue...isn't that why it's not done in some states?
Skizero 01/06/2005
i think it was already in place. and God did not institute the death penalty. god is a cartoon character.
scarletfeather 01/05/2005
He didn't reinstitute the death penalty, not counting the hundreds who have lost their lives in the Iraq war. And, though we have a long tradition of the death penalty in this country, I wouldn't say it goes all the way back to the 1500's. The first settlers did not reach our shores until the early 1600's.
BIGBABY 01/05/2005
Bush re-instituted the death penalty? No, I believe the death penalty in America started in the 1500's in a little village in Massachusetts called Salem. And for your brain-dead liberal information, Bush was not alive then.

the death penalty is a states rights issue. very few people are executed for federal violations.
jamestkirk 01/04/2005
You are a very misinformed individual to believe GW did this.

Extending Flick's excellent point, more convicted killers were executed in California during democratic Governor Gray Davis' term than were in Texas during George Bush's gubernatorial tenure.

If I recall correctly, the death penalty was brought back during the administration of Democrat Jimmy Carter. I believe the first person to be executed when it was reinstated was Gary Gilmore.
abichara 01/04/2005
Actually the death penalty was re-instituted well before George W. Bush's time. For a time during the 1960's and '70's, the penalty was never used because it was seen as arbitrary in nature, according to the Supreme court. To make a long story short, the court later claimed that stricter scrutiny was required in capital punishment cases. However judgements about who deserves life and death cannot be asked lightly. It does remain arbitrary in nature.
