Auric Goldfinger (played by Gert Fröbe in "Goldfinger" (1964)) was clearly the most interesting and realistic of the villains in the Bond franchise. Moreover, his plot (irradiating the U.S. gold supply at Fort Knox on behalf of the Chinese and to increase the value of his private horde of gold) was also more plausible than those contained in other films in the series. (Note that a derivative of this scheme was recycled in "A View To A Kill" but didn't work very well.) Goldfinger ultimately meet his devise by being sucked out of an airplane. Gert Fröbe was born in 1913 in Germany and passed away in 1988.

A nasty, smart and complicated villain. With Dr. No, the best of the worst.

Certainly the most realistic (or at least the least cartoonish) of the Bond arch-villains. That scene where Bond drops the bar of gold on the green as Goldfinger attempts to putt is awesome. You can feel the Midas like gold-lust oozing from Goldfinger, his concentration so thrown by the prescence of the gold he misses his gimme putt. A villain with some depth.

The Villain all other Bond Villains are measured against.

Fat bastard you just love to see die. That's one kind of a great villain.
