For a very developed shore, the area does still have some relatively wide beach area. The nature of this region has gone through several transitions over the years. In the early 1980's, the both Myrtle and North Myrtle (ie the Grand Strand) were family oriented, yet still offered plenty of upscale and mature entertainment. Later, the area became more Nashville and golfing, resulting in the resort losing some of its edge. Recently, the Grand Strand has started to get back some of its prior feel with the development of some major entertainment complexes.
