Andrew777, I am not sure how old or young you are, but what I do know is that you are pretty naive. All Special Forces lose members in theatre. Simply because a unit is a Special Forces one does not mean to say that it is above the danger - actual or potenial - that the unit faces. Most Americans believe anything

In March 2006, in a bloodless operation, the SAS rescued British activist, Norman Kember, and 2 Canadians who had been kidnapped in Baghdadread more : SAS rescue Norman KemberSeptember 5th, 2007 - A 30-man SAS team assaulted a house that intel had pinpointed as the location of a senior Al-Qaeda figure. The mission was a success but sadly it costs the life of one of the SAS assaulters. so...ever hear of SEAL'S failing their teamates like the SAS or canadians...they are good, granted, but im sick of the SEAL's not being rightfuly reconized as the best sp tf. Facts to back it up. in vietnam war seal had a 200;1 kill to loss ratio, the 1 was from either sickness or natural accidents(look it up) Fact 2: never has a seal been captured. WEELLL seems though we are based on SAS and sbs, and the fact seals are relatively young, we still are up to par with any fighting force in the world, how i know this? easy...my unce and dad ex SEAL's and have worked with SAS, sbs, spetznaz. seal's command respect from all, and respectively.

I knew somebody one time that had been in the Navy for quite some time, and told everyone that he was a Navy Seal. And it was an absolute lie, because I knew the person. He should have been proud of himself for his accomplishments just by being in the military services.I think the Navy Seals is one of the best special forces there are, and they are really put through a lot of rigorous training and work. And from what I understand, there are very few who make the cut because they can't do it. Which is why I think that there have been some that have lied and said that they were a Seal. I think the best thing is be proud of who you are and what you have accomplished.

SEALs are pretty cool and great in the movies, and I have no doubt that they have some pretty gruelling training, but they don't match up to the likes of the SAS and SBS, Aussie SASR, NZ SAS, or Canadian JTF2. Their track record isn't too great compared to these other special forces of the world.
kwilk65 11/15/2005
i will admit that the training is hard, swimming as most of you might no is a very demanding activity especially at a special forces selection level, as for saying the SEALS are the best i wouldnt think so, they are a top quality unit within the American Military but on a global scale the British SAS and Australian SASR are the 2 best SF groups this planet has seen, simply because they are there to do the job, there are so many books and movies and information on the SEALS and various other American SF groups that it seriously a joke, im an Australian and there is more information on American SF thatn there is Aussie, simply becuase the SASR and SAS dont want to be in all the media crap seriously the only thing America is good at is making themselves look good through the camera, alot of our soldiers from vietnam and Korea and even WW2 diddnt think much of the American Forces. As for iraq that is a joke i read on a website about an Australian SASR patrol that saved US Marines after there helicopter was shot down in Afganistan, they had been out in that desert for over 2 weeks on recon and survellance missions and were recognised by US Military officials which i am grateful, The british SAS and SBS also have impressive records and i respect them greatly as a country and a fighting force and would back them up anyday. thanks guys

I am a South African who is going to join these guys after I get cleared to immegrate to the USA. Reading up a lot on the special force units all around the world the amphibious special force unit are the best cause they specialize in the most difficult obsticle 'water'. The Seals and the SBS are therefore the best special force units in the world. Because the seals only started operating after world war 2 they are a young and sort of inexperienced unit compaired to the SBS, but on the other hand has got a lot better military technology. US militry budget alone is bigger than entire world compine. The technology makes them even better than the SBS, and I have no doubt that in the near future the average success rate wil increase and they will be the best in the world, but untill then, I feel they share a 1ste place with the SBS.
alpepper 05/04/2005
I've gotten to know a lot of them. The stories they have shared with me are incredible (Sorry, you dudes ain't cleared). When I was joining the Navy, I actually asked my recruiter if I had the mettle. When he told me the swim requirements alone, I said, not for me. They are probably the best conditioned and best-equipped SpecOps unit in the world.
psingh05 04/02/2005
Best it world. No doubt. No other spec. force has even 30% of the capabilities. I believe the Russian Spetsnaz is good too, but others including sbs et al. - not even close. My own country india has an awful array spec ops force. I hope they take a page from the Americans' book.
Jachin 01/24/2005
As SF go SEALS are OK, but nothing special, pardon the pun. The problem with the Americans is that they have the technology, are superb at logistics, but they have a poor military track record since WW2. Even there they were no hotshots. The Americans tend to believe their own hype and Hollywood's portrayal of their military prowess. In fact their SF seldom if ever get it right. They are pretty good though against weak opponents such as the Iraqis.
Galford Heartforge 01/11/2005
They arent bad. But really, The SBS and SAS Outclass them very very Easily. (it helps not to be gung ho and act like a cowboy, and have a little discipline, thats why you base Delta, and SEALS on the SAS/SBS Structure.
phrogman 11/20/2004
Danny said it best on the Gordon Forbes documentary about the SEALs. It's not that we're the best, it's just that everybody else sucks. I have to laugh when you guys try to put the SEALs below the SBS, because SEALs don't run when the lead starts flying. And, what makes matters worse, ask any UK SAS operator who he would rather work with right now. Bet you top dollar it definitely ins't the SBS (their own cousins).
numbah16tdhaha 10/16/2004
Seals are pretty cool. They get all the fun toys. UPDATE: seems to me that these is alot a pissing and moaning about US capabililties by pansies who don't agree with our poilicies. Fine, go protest our policies all you like, but you will only look foolish by giving us ones because you can't pull the stick out.
IA~Eagle 10/16/2004
Sure, the navy seals are good, but, they are no SAS, SBS, Specail Air Service or even Canada's JTF2. They are good by US standards, but how about world standards?
zulufrog 09/18/2004
SEALs are the most feared, respected, envied, highliest trained, enduring/stamina, toughest to get into SF group. they can operate any where under any condition - and btw, they also happen to be the best combat divers which is quite a plus in this now unconventional world where 5/6 of the world is water
SpeakerOfTheTr uth 09/08/2004
Not bad by US standards, but nowhere near as good as the british SBS on which the are based!!
Return the Empire 08/23/2004
I would definatley rate the SEAL's as a quality force although I have read little of their operational abilities admittedly. But as a response to Ste....SAS NOT releasing books?!?!?!?! Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick.
Ste 08/22/2004
the navy SEALs are really just the british SBS without the REAL training , and all that about the hand to hand combat . . . well the british SAS and SBS are far superior except there ex soldiers dont come out and publish much documented books regarding the techneqes.
interpretrix 06/27/2004
This is the best of the united states special forces.
specoperator 06/07/2004
what makes the seals good is that they are highly trained in many different areas of unconventional warfare they receive some of the most comprehensive military trainng in the world
kesol 05/15/2004
Best trained, best equiped, best in the world!
Captain Adam Gomez 04/29/2004
your dealing this individual train killer machine or (TKM)who could use his bare hands, hand to hand combat, ignore pain, knife defence and could swimm forever an ANY weather. A American Navy SEAL could climed latters with one arm. Perfessional's and good. A American Navy SEAL could kill a Russian SPETSNAZ or American Air Force Pararescue... cod cobbler 03/31/2004
A seal's nothing but a circus animal with balls on its nose. Yeah, that's it.

The U.S. Navy SEALs are probably the counterpart of the Army Rangers in MOST respects. Comparing the SEALs, as well as any unit to the Green Berets is foolish simply because no other unit, save the British SAS, is tasked with the Green Berets mission. Anyway, these worriors (SEALs) are said to be the most physically fit in te world due to their grueling training. The SEALs do have a counterterrorist counterpart to Delta Force. Formerly SEAL Team 6, they are now called DEVGROUP which is short for Development Group, they are responsible for maritime counterterror missions. Many former members say that DEVGROUP is equal if not better than Delta...but in all respects, and countless opinions, that is not quite so. Nonetheless, the SEALs are a formitable force that is feared throughout the world.
