Photography a great and rewarding occupation, especially to those who have been able to travel and capture the many beautiful scenic pictures that's been taken. I love those type of pictures.

I've worked with more than a few, and I've always been intrigued by them. My own photography is pedestrian at its best, and I admire a skilled professional at work.
Make no mistake, this is a demanding, highly skilled job, blending the eye of an artist with an impressive set of technical skills.
Taking a few self-absorbed arty shots on vacation doesn't put you in the same league as a professional commercial photographer. Hell, it isn't even in the same sport.

It's become the latest trend for all the talentless middle-class kids to get their parents to buy them expensive cameras, take a few "deep" pictures of some trees (or of themselves in absurd poses) and claim they are budding photographers. This is the result of a generation of television and of people being encouraged to 'express themselves'...

Too much routine and as*-kissing for me.
Brenden 06/06/2008
It is a kinda confusing occupation and is focused too much on the ability to take a long time to take a shot or a quick shot of perfection. Plus, it's kinda boring to me.

I could enjoy being a photographer if I had the money for the equipment. My brother-in-law is an amature but does a great job.

I take too many photos..I am shocked my mum doesn't have a photo of me taking a photo..lol

If you can make a living at it, this is extremely satisfying work. While not as engaging or challenging as other art forms, beautiful photography is accessible to nearly everyone, so good photographers tend to make friends and admirers wherever they go. I once knew a Japanese photographer who was rather geeky looking and could barely speak English; yet his skill at photography was so great he managed to communicate with, and impress, nearly everyone he met.

I love everything about this profession - precision, style, class. I love to photogragh and enjoy creativity part of it. This is something I could deffinately do.

This is an interest of mine and I just dont understand why you have to go to school. Buy an expensive camera and shoot away! This could happen for me soon.
Vudija 04/05/2006
I actually wouldn't mind this. It allows for creativity and travel (at least occasionally, if not more so). If cameras weren't so expensive, I probably would have been doing this as just a hobby. I've contemplated changing my major, but I'd prefer to weigh all my options and check out earnings and employment before I just jump into a change that could affect everything I've worked for.

I'd just want to take naked pictures all the time, so this one might land me in jail.

It doesn't take a lot of work to take a good picture as long as the camera's pointed at me!

hi i am a freelance stock photographer. i love my job a lot i can't see my self doing anying else. i have talk to a lot of photographers out there and some don't make a lot of money or don't even make any. a lot of them always ask me how come i make more money then them. i always tell them shoot what you want. but shoot what the customer wants and get paid. you have to give in a little to make money in this biss because of you don't then someone else will and then take that job and you did not get any money for it.

A picture can be just as powerful as a written testimonial to an event. It can make you laugh, it can make you cry, it can make you angry, it can make you think. A photograph of starving children in Africa can be heart-breaking, a picture of a reunion between a soldier and his family can be uplifting. I recently took an interest in photography when I began paying more attention to the photographs that have defined our past, like the famous ones from D-Day, and more recently, 9/11. Pictures can tell a story without relating words, and the beauty of being a photographer is that you are, in effect, the story-teller.

I used to be very much against photography as an "artform" a few years back, angry that "snapping a picture" would be considered in higher regard than painting or drawing. But, after taking a photography class (a requirement for my major) and knowing several photographers as friends, I know better now and realize that it is indeed an art form to respect. It takes a lot of skill (and sometimes great luck) to get a shot that captures the essence of the moment and the beauty in everything that exists. Knowing what to concentrate on, what to print and how to print it, it's more than just a snapshot. Some see it as collecting history. Though I agree with magellan's view that having a profession that advances society may make a profession "great", I also see how something like photography is important. To be able to look back and appreciate the past and the beauty of something that you didn't see before is a worthy cause; if you don't see the beauty in life, how can you appreciate it?

A really fun thing to do. It'san easy to espress yourself on what is a good scene without having to paint it or draw it.
Teaseress 05/10/2002
I've done freelance photography, i've studied photography and I totally love it. There's nothing more satisfying than taking a picture of something that has really grabbed your attention and then developing in and seeing the image that you've captured seep in onto the paper. Magnificent! Also, it may not seem to help the world move on, but I think it does. With the majority of images, people look at it and can say "This shouldn't be happening" and put a stop to it, like people being harmed, pollution and other issues.
magellan 06/18/2001
I think it would be really fun to be a photographer - this profession is somewhat artistic, somewhat technical, and has the potential to be pretty glamorous. However, a profession can not be five stars for me unless it creates something that didn't exist before. A new technology, a sculpture, a bridge, a new way of doing business - it doesn't matter. Maybe it's the Rand influence on me, but I feel that a truly great profession needs to bring society forward. Because photography captures that which already exists, it more retrospective than creative, more backwards-looking than revolutionary.

This is really the best job out there, It is a fun job and all you have to do is take outstanding pictures and have a nice personality and you have to really like what you do.
reeny 05/27/2001
Photography is form of art. One has to have a sense of artistry to really enjoy photography. Photographers are preservers of life. The camera is their tool to show us life all over the world and out of this world. I believe that a career where a person can show true life to help others understand it is an outstanding career.

I can't think of many things which are more beauty than the most beauty photos! I also love to take them myself! :-)
