The Bad News Bears Grow Up. Same premise - misfit players get their act together and become a team. It's OK as far as movies go, not horrible, but you do see where it's all headed right away. All that's left is whether you like the characters and think things are funny. They are, but not overwhelmingly so. Look at it now and it's kinda funny to see who was in that movie Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes......Maybe if I'm in the right mood on a Sunday aftrenoon I might watch this movie again.

Major League is a sports movie the same way that Airplane is an aviation disaster movie.

Funny in a cutesy way. . .but has anyone else noticed it's not really aging well? Bob Uecker as the announcer is still funny, though.

Predictable, moderately well-written fun. Nothing special.

It is a good well thought out COMEDY. Its not so well as a great sports movie.

Released in 1989 and directed by David S. Ward, Major League is a benign but relatively funny baseball movie. For the uninitiated, the concept of the film is a collection of washed-up veteran, rookie and eccentric professional baseball players who are trying to increase attendance and win the pennant for Cleveland. Unfortunately, the team's owner is trying to get the team to lose so that she can move it to Miami. The humor is predictable, yet effective, and the casting is definitely late 1980's with Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Corbin Bernsen, and Wesley Snipes all taking roles as baseball players, and Rene Russo as Berenger's love interest. However, in the end the movie is made by Bob Uecker's portrayal of the team's color commentator who has many of the film's best lines (eg just a bit outside). Nevertheless, the bottom line is that Major League is essentially a comedy with a baseball setting rather than a baseball movie with comic relief.

Not the greatest movie ever, but I enjoyed it and it made me laugh. Charlie Sheen was really good as well. Of course this was back in the day when he was beyond good looking and wasn't so shallow. I own this movie, and watch it every now and then...
