I really liked the first couple of these movies. Very good. But the last one was a pretty bad flop. I think it's time to stop making new ones, but the old ones were great.

Its easily the best of the series, and I rather wish Stallone had stopped here.

I absolutely loved Rocky. Sure, the fight scenes were probably the most unrealistic depiction of actual boxing ever put on celluloid, but this movie represented more than just that. It was about triumphing over impossible odds, using the cards that you were dealt. It represented the American Dream. It couldn't have come out in a better year either. I'd give it a 5, but that would put it in the same class as my all - time favourite boxing movie: Raging Bull, which is in a class by itself.

A great movie, sports related or not. The movie was almost art imitating life when it came to the movie itself. Rocky was about an unknown, underdog boxer, scraping and scrounging to get by in life. Suddenly, he is thrown into the spotlight, inadvertently becoming a hero. Sylvester Stallone was an unknown, underdog writer/actor with about 3 dozen rejected scripts. Rocky was filmed in just under a month on a budget of $1 million and ended up winning the Oscar for Best Picture. Unfortunately, they made more. In the sequels, the budget got bigger, Rocky got smarter, his girlfriend/wife got prettier, and the heart of the movie got lost. They made an attempt to get back to the original concept with Rocky 5, but it was a little late.

Definitely in my top 5 sports flicks. I was a die hard fight fan in the days when the heavyweight division was something to be exited about. I still am but only 1 fight in 10 I see give a look at a fighter that will be a draw in the future.(Muhammid Ali era) Rockys charachter in the first movie was very believable. So was the love interest in the charachter of Adrian. You had to cheer on the dumby and the geek. The story of a man who literally broke bones to feed himself while he could be gentle enough to woo a social misfit was irresistable. He was a true gentle tuff guy, and both sides of him were believble. In at least the last 3 sequels, he lost his charm and believability.

It just doesn't get any better than the training scenes in Rocky. That crazy music starts pumping, raw eggs get sucked down, Rocky starts sprinting through the Italian market in predawn Philadelphia, finishing with the dash up the art museum steps. If that doesn't get you going, you may need to check your pulse.

The first Rocky was the best movie and maybe one of the greatest Sports movies made, certainly Top Ten material. The Story is classic Americana - Poor, down and out working class guy gets his one shot at life. He works his tail offf and never quits and even in defeat gains more than he ever had before. This was one of the first movies to portray that theme and it's been the inspiration for a lot of movies after it. The movie also gave an indentity to Philadelphia, the perfect city for the movie to take place in. The City naturally understood Rocky and used the movie to characterize itself. Even to this day, you'll see people running up the Art Museum stairs jumping up and down with fists in the air. Such is the effect this movie has.

I can remember as a young boy seeing Rocky punching the sides of meat and very vividly, the drinking of raw eggs. This movie was very inspiring and entertaining, while the other 5 or 10 or however many there were, were just overkill.

Rocky fights for all the fighters who never made it to the big time, but still carry that dream with them every day of their lives. I should know.

We all know the story of how writer Sly Stallone wouldn't sell His script until Actor,Sly Stallone got the lead.Would the Film be as popular without Sly? I don't think so.

A misunderstood sports film. It's not about the fight. It's not about heroes and villians (Apollo is not the villian in the film.) It's not about winning or losing. Your greatest obstacle to greatness and happiness is yourself. When you commit to something and/or someone wonderful things will happen. When Rocky did this- his world changed. Still a wonderful lesson that so many people don't incorporate into their lives. The music is a little goofy-70's, but it still inspires me. When I saw it as a kid, I didn't really understand all the nuances of the story. . .watching it as an adult has made me appreciate it more.

What i think about rocky is that you either love it or hate it. I am on the love side of rocky because there is no better sports film for its acting, inspiration and motivation. All you have to do is watch it and you wana go out and be the best that you can be at ur sport. It was also made from a very limited budget.

This is Sly at his best. I could've done without the sequels, but the original Rocky is definitely a sports classic. Very moving and inspiring.

Perseveres, overcomes adversity and fights on when there is no logical reason to fight. I still cry when he runs up the steps (I know...I know...LOL)

Not only the best sports movie. In my humble assessment, the best movie ever. The story is so well acted and you don't have a soul if you don't feel your chest tightening up at the end of the movie. The real star of the movie is the city of Philadelphia. I don't know if the movie would have worked quite as well anywhere else. The soundtrack (including that great theme song) was also outstanding. All of this was done on a budget less than they pay one of the 6 stooges from Friends to say unfunny things for a 30-minute episode.

A very good film spoiled slightly by bad fight scenes and a few ridiculous moments (eg., the line about never having had a broken nose despite fighting like someone who shoves his own face into an electric fan, and Cut me, Mick). The best bit of the whole movie is that Rocky DOESN'T win at the end. Nice to see at least some cliche-avoidance.
