I thought it was a horrible scene that shamelessly preyed on children's biggest fear - losing a parent and made it worse by having the uncle come up right after and blame it on the kid. And it is so graphic, you actually watch Mufasa trampled and then see Simba lift his lifeless paw and drop it in the dust. But it is the oldest trick in the Disney canon. Almost every Disney feature length cartoon prominently featyure a family that has been in some way torn apart. Snow White - evil step mother. Bambi - mother gets shot. Peter Pan - orphan. Cinderella - evil step mother. Toy Story - Andy is raised by a single mother. Little Mermaid - no sign of Ariel's mother. It goes on and on. It's extremely exploitive. Kids are easy prey.

I thought the death of Mufasa was done extremely well and effective. It had me crying at the cinema but it explained death itself very well. Probably explaning it the best through animation. It was the most emotional and sadest piece of animation I ever saw. Good work Disney!

When I was younger I loved this movie and yes, I'll admit, I did cry when Mufasa died.

Sad, and yet all part of the circle of life. Scar's a cruel cruel lion though.
