I never understood what was so emotionally moving about shooting a rabid dog.

It was extremely emotional. Don't all little boys love their dogs? I'm not heartless. The dog changing is what scared me then. I'm from the country. I have just read about it. It seems some very few dogs can survive. They should be vaccinated.

Old Yeller died? I thought I saw him going through my garbage can just the other day. I should have watched the end of the flick.

I remember crying my eyes out when I was a little kid when Old Yeller dies. I have no idea what effect on me today but I do remember it be pretty touching then.

one of the first movies I saw as a kid that got me real upset. Still a weeper of a movie. The devoted dog Yeller who befriends a family ends up getting rabies at the end and it boy master must shoot him to put him out of his misery.sob, sob sob. you would have to hate dogs to not cry at this.

I was so horrified and upset at this. My grandmother bought this for me as a kid and once I saw the ending, I was crying so much. I could not fathom in explanation the pain on the poor dog's face.

This devastated me as a child! I think it caused me to develop a life-long love of yellow Lab mixes though.
