Yes Mitchum was to old to play Pug Henry, but when you allow yourself to get by that and begin to realize how faithful to the book the series remained you can start to appreciate what great movie making this really was. Jan-Micheal Vincent was perfect as Byron, Polly Bergen as Rhoda, John Houseman as Aaron and watching Ali MacGraw was seeing Natalie step out the books pages she was perfect. All gave first rate performances, but the show stopper in Winds and in its sequel War & remembrance was the great and lamentably late David Dukes his portrayal of Leslie Slote was dead on to the character in Wouk s novel. This was a magnificent effort & the result is one of the most lavish mini-series ever made. read the book and re watch the series its time well spent.

Tedious. Every character is called upon to make fatuous pompous speeches, over and over and over..... Should have been called "The Windbags of War."

I STILL can't believe that Robert Mitchum could be thought of as sexy at the age he was when he did this.
