It won the highest honor a miniseries can win......the Peabody Award!
It also won seven EMMY's, 2 GOLDEN GLOBES, and various other awards.
It is also my personal favortie.

Good cast great performances if you like western you gotta like this one.

Incidentally the 2 spin off LD has produced are pretty good as well, The streets of Laredo and Comanche Moon they are fun as well.

Lonesome Dove ('89) 5

Based on an excellent Larry McMurtry book. Great cast with Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall. It followed the book very well and overall it was a great pleasure to watch. Very high production values too. Best Western mini-series ever. Maybe one of the top five films of the genre.

Martha tried to make me watch this when it was first on the tube, but I was too stubborn and wouldn't do it. Then I finally watched it when it came out on VHS and realized what I had missed. It was a first rate Western, even if you excise the Larry McMurtry lefto horsesh*t!
