The list of utter garbage that this 'mulleted' cardboard cutout has appeared in is shocking- the terrible 'Red Dawn" the severely overrated "Outsiders," 'Ghost," 'Dirty Dancing," etc..

As screen appeal does not necessarily equal talent, there may come along that movie role in which an insightful director enables his cast to perform to their potential, as was the case with Tom Cruise (in 'Rain Man,' or 'A Few Good Men'), Julia Roberts (in 'Erin Brokovich') or Kevin Costner (in 'JFK' and in 'Field of Dreams').
From what by and large have been average performances for conventional scripts ('Red Dawn'; 'Road House'; 'Ghost'; etc.), Swayze has acquitted himself well in roles, however stereotyped, that make greater demands of him, such as in 'The Outsiders'; 'City of Joy' and 'Donnie Darko.'
And then there is what is likely the role best written: that of 'Ben Clifton' in director John Kaye's 'Along for the Ride (2000)', an understated performance in a true sleeper movie where Swayze allows us to empathize with his character, a road of discovery for his character, a TV writer in search of a teenaged son he knew nothing about; Swayze would have cause to feel pride in his accomplishemnt here. Not unlike the similar premise motivating Bill Murray in Jim Jarmusch's equally delightful 'Broken Flowers,' These two small movies, along with Director Campbell Scott's 'Off the Map,' make for some of the finest pieces of authentic Americana in recent years.
