Disclaimer: the sentiments in this song are certainly admirable, and the guy's heart was in the right place.I'm certainly not denigrating the reason McCartney wrote this ...That being said, in my view this tune was simply horrible. I always wanted to catch a former Beatle live, as they are my favorite rock band ever, and finally got the opportunity in 2002 at the Fleet Center in Boston. McCartney actually put on a good show, marred by the inclusion of this dreadful track. Half the place had a look on their face like ' oh no, not this garbage' the other half, the folks who just want to hear the predictable stuff that gets played all the time, cheered. This is one of the very worst songs by a former Beatle, one of the worst 'rock' tracks of the decade, and one of the worst recent cuts by a 60's veteran performer : with lyrics that a 4th grader would be capable of, an annoying chorus, just an all around insipid piece of banal tripe. I wouldn't even expect this from say Winger- the musicians who fall hardest are the ones whose music has genuinely moved or impressed us in the past. When they come up with crap, it's worse than the people we expect to suck. This from the guy who wrote "Yesterday," "For No One," and"The Fool On The Hill?" McCartney has written some fine stuff since the days of the Beatles and some syrupy dreck, but this takes the cake in terms of musical horror...

A great anthem for post 9/11 but it appears alot of folks believe that only certain people deserve freedom.

an annoying song written in a fit of jingoistic fervor than slapped at the end of a very artistically late career album by Paul McCartney called Driving Rain Typically I end the album as soon as the generic handclaps of freedom come on. after 60 minutes of listening to Paul sing about old love/new love, and play music like he hasn't in a long time, i just can't stomach this tripe. would've better served Macca to put freedom out as a charity single.
