 | Molfan (60) 07/16/2008 | I am glad this dance form is not around for my kids to watch. I never tried it myself but it sure looks dangerous. I wonder how many people ended up in the emergency room attempting this type of dance? I can see why they call it break dancing since part of it involves spinning around in the head and neck area. You could break your neck trying. at least I would.

 | bboynightwing (0) 04/20/2007 | its not called breakdancing.. its breaking, or bboy/bgirling. get it right. and it is a form of dancing, its just hard to start off matching to the music but when u become better u can actually react to the music. its more popular than it ever was in the 80's and its all around the world. its somthing that unites people from all over. sure bboying may be dangerous if ur not used to the movements but its as dangerous as any other sport there is. practicing allows ur body to adapt to the movments and therefore makes you have a lesser risk of injurying urself. u can not compare it to any other dance form. unlike the disco days. breaking evolves constantly, people push their limits and creativity. in the 80's they had tap headspins and now it has become continuous headspins.. everything evolves.

 | Etherfish (0) 12/05/2004 | Break Dancing is Da Bomb! I studied other forms of hip hop dance for several years first and never liked break dancing because I thought it was boring to watch. But this year my troupe required me to learn it, and my opinion changed 180 degrees. Mentally it's easier than other dance, but physically it is extremely hard. It is as much acrobatics as dance. i'm lucky to have good teachers because a lot of people get hurt if they don't master the basics before they do the hard stuff. orthopedic surgeons even have certain injuries they call break dancing injuries! But about 80 people have studied it at our studio for years, and no major injuries. The reason I used to not like it, and the reason a lot of people don't want to call it dancing is because it is so difficult that only the very best break dancers have the strength and speed to actually move with the music. Most break dancers are just doing tricks to impress people around the circle, and can't really achieve moving with and expressing the music.
Now I have a lot of respect for break dancers and am constantly sore from using muscles i've never used before. And it's FAR from OVER! It's just not packaged and sold on TV because all dancing is only powerful when it's live. You have to have three dimensions and TV only has two. There are tricks and illusions they use in the movies, but they will never package it like they do music as long as the camera has only one eye. It's a great medium to bring people together and put out incredible energy instead of vegging out in front of the TV. Dancing belongs to the people, not big corporations making money off of us. It's a perfect tool to keep kids away from drugs, gangs, and crime, which is mostly caused by excess energy and lack of belonging.

 | sfalconer (22) 07/08/2004 | Its closer to gymnastics then dancing and from what I can see it is pretty much over. You have to be pretty limber and have a tough back but I would not call it dancing.

 | Zioness Esq. (0) 05/27/2004 | I love that TV ad where the old bald guy does all this fancy dancing for 6 Flags Over Atlanta Theme Park bit. I think this is mostly like a sport, most do not compete in this arena. Fun to watch those that do though.

 | DHeman (0) 11/29/2003 | In my opinion, break dancing is one of the hardest things to learn if not the hardest. It is very modern and creative. We're living in a century dominated by hip hop lifestyles, and breakdancing fits in perfectly at this day and age. A good thing about breakdancing is that once you learn the basics, you can make up your own moves, most pros make up their own moves, the most creative and endurable person will win a breaking battle. It is very exciting just by watching the amazing and unbelivable moves. It truly makes you envy such skills.

 | MissPackRat4Jesus (42) 03/08/2003 | Okay, this may have been big in '84, but I don't know, for the life of me, why this was even popular. Viewing it from the here and now, as a woman of nearly 30, I think the whole thing was so dumb. I vividly remember it; even grade-schoolers, boys and girls alike, flipped over it. Including me! I was not exactly in the "in" crowd when I was growing up. I was actually considered to be sort of a nerd. I lacked social skills; I was extremely shy even though deep down, I really wanted to fit in with the popular kids and have friends. I was also very ignorant, and fell for every trick that was pulled on me, and for every line of bull I heard. During recess one day, when I was about ten, I was watching a gang of kids playing a "ghetto-blaster" (I remember those as well) and break dancing to the music. If I recall right, one of the kids asked me to try it. Realizing that break dancing was the fad at the time, I went ahead and tried it... and ended up making a raving idiot of myself. All I know is this: that I'm glad that break dancing has lost something over the years..... let it die!!!!!

 | CastleBee (85) 05/20/2002 | It always impressed me as a more of a street show routine and actually appears to approach more of an organized fit than anything resembling dance. Oh well, something to humor future generations as they take a peek back at the 1980's. I guess I can say that since I'm from the disco era and you know how THAT form of dance held up over the years! LOL!

 | oodie (0) 05/15/2002 | was great in the 1980's when people became consumed w/everything urban....i remember having plenty of friends who thought they could replicate what the cast of Breakin' and Breakin' 2 "electric boogaloo" were doing. i really dont have an opinion on breakdancing other than to think back on a personally simpler time in my life.

 | ashleys (23) 07/28/2001 | The 80s didn't give us much that we can be proud of, but break dancing is just plain cool. I can perform, ohhh.... none of the moves. That's a dance where you actually need talent. The only bad feelings I have towards break dancing are warm-up suits and box hair cuts.

 | afterglow70 (1) 06/11/2001 | Holy cow! I remember when you were so cool if you could break dance! I also remember at the same time you were cool if you listened to punk rock. Thank God those phases are gone. I just hope that none of it comes back like the bell-bottoms and thick soled shoes did. Hey Dorkavitch, I remember the worm! Oh, how many times I tried to perfect the worm and I would fail because of the tumors that they call boobs, would stop me and I would almost break my neck! Imagine, a girl w/ a red mohawk, doing the worm!
