My 10-year-old son's month was a nightmare. Mr. Mittenthal told us my son would live with boys he knew; he then placed him in a cabin with kids he'd never met. The first night, my son asked the counselor to walk him to the bathroom & the counselor refused. My son wet his bed & the counselor left the smelly sheets by his bed until laundry day. Staff found his fear of the outdoors funny & encouraged other boys bullying. The nurse knew my son had accidents but he was embarrassed to bring dirty clothes & bedding to be washed. He threw away his medicine, hoping to get sick enough to be sent home. Staff told kids to write only positive notes home. My son returned with bags of clothes & bedding soaked in urine & feces. His temperature was 101. He had not taken medication for over a week. He spent the next week in the hospital. He threatened to kill himself if we sent him to camp again. The camp was negligent and abusive to my child. He returned physically ill & emotionally scarred.
