I read and enjoyed the books long before the film was announced, and thankfully I enjoyed the film just as much. I enjoyed the film so much I hope to see some of the places it was filmed next year.

I finally made it through the films over the Christmas Holidays, having on two previous occassions attempted and failed to make it through the first film (the first time I was really tired and fell asleep, the second time I think I had something else that I really needed to get done, like gardening or something). I am decidedly not a sci-fi fantasy fan, and couldn't imagine plowing through the incredibly dense books - 90% of what I read is non-fiction. All of that said, there was no doubt that the films were handsomely mounted epic spectacles, and that the production value was absolutely top notch. It was reasonably engaging even for someone who really wasn't that interested in the genre. You could feel the brevity in the narative, with spots where some character or other made a speach that was clearly for the purpose of filling in leaps in the written story for the sake of keeping the films to a reasonable running time. It didn't turn me into a Lord of the Rings fan, but I enjoyed it well enough. Far better than the recent Spider-Man/X-Men/Batman series.

The best one out of the three. In This film, you are introduced to the main characters (My favorite being Boromir) as they embark out their adventure to destroy the ring of Sauron. The film is incredible. Near the end of the movie their fellowship falls apart, and Frodo and Sam set off on their own journey without everyone else. The end is sad in a way but leaves you totally ready for the next movie.

No me pirro por los libros, ni los juguetes, ni demás merchandising... pero hay que reconocer que la peli está bien

This trilogy makes my top 50 of all time

I read the books about 35 years before this movie came out. I think this trilogy was about as close as you could come to recreating the books. It was a wise choice to film the series in New Zealand too. What beautiful scenery! The only thing that was a bit tiresome for me were the computer animated fills during the battle scenes. A minor quibble.

Ya know honestly I'm just not a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy...I know I'm weird.

The entire trilogy is awesome.. I own them all and saw them all on the big screen. If you didn't get that opportunity I'm sorry, the battle scenes are so worth it !!!

I didn't think anyone would ever be able t film this. Be sure to read the books, too.
GenghisTheHun 03/18/2008
I give this a pass, I could take it or leave it.
twansalem 03/14/2008
Wow, talk about one of the most overrated movies of all time. Yes, the battle scenes were incredible. But the storyline is incredibly boring. Why am I supposed to care about some goofy hobbit?

A great film, despite Jackson insinuating Tolkien would have approved his references to drug use. The least crooked of the films, the truest to the books. Some scenes favoured action over atmosphere, which is understandable given the three hour length and the correct decision to create a blockbuster rather than attempt a masterpiece. The first seven minutes were the best part of the films, perhaps the only part that captures the books atmospheric intent through script as skillfully as it does through costumes. A little too fast paced to be able to syncronize itself wholly with the book, which is understandable given Jackson's blockbuster philosophy and the fact there were three films and not six.

Love this movie (and the sequels). Makes my heart longing for... for what?
PixarFan2007 05/08/2007
I give this movie a 4. A Hobbit named Frodo inherits a ring from Bilbo and he learns that the ring is evil and must be destroyed. He goes on a quest with Gandalf, a wizard, Sam, a hobbit who's Frodo's friend, and many others. I gave this movie a 4 because there was a lot left out of the book.

Amazing movie.A very big bravo for the cast and crew of the film. It's simply the best movie!
Jeremy00081 09/13/2006
I could watch this movie over and over if I had the time. A great story. One of the few films that made me feel for the characters.
colonelo'neill 04/09/2006
Less exciting but more addicting than the other two movies. It can't be beat. By the way, Peter Jackson is going to be producing the movie of Halo. No joke.
oscargamblesfr o 02/09/2006
I'll try to keep it short, being a Tolkien junkie and all... it differed from the books a fair amount, but as a movie it was incredible and the effects were astounding, plus the acting was generally solid to very good.
Virginia Watson 02/05/2006
This is an exiting movie, grate for all ages, one you see it you want to see them all, Great for Familys to see togeter.

What can ya say that hasn't already been said about these great epic films.Cannot wait for more of Peter Jackson's works.
Maomania 02/27/2005
It was a good movie. I think that movie felt long. There was not that much action in this one. A lot of background information and get to know the character. It was an important movie, but I liked the other 2 better.
Mooselover 02/24/2005
The dullest of the LOTR Trilogy. Though it gets and extra star for great special effect, a wonderful score, and some good acting the film was just very boring. It lasted way too long than it needed too and the story was very complicated to keep up leaving loads of flaws. Definatly an overrated movie!
eleutheromania c 01/23/2005
All of the LOTR movies are simply overrated. They were good, but they weren't THAT good.
Cartman117 12/05/2004
Great WAr scene(s)more story than war atleast it made sense.
Djahuti 11/16/2004
The movie looked great, the acting and casting was incredible. You should still READ THE BOOK,as quite a lot was left out.Hollywood always sacrifices depth in favor of longer and absurdly unrealistic fight scenes.
sfalconer 08/20/2004
This movie is a rare thing these days, a true epic made with great photography and taken from a marvalous peice of literature. A wonderful begining to the trilogy.
ANSGARD 07/09/2004
Great movie. battle scenes are fantastic...amazing story
Iamopinionated 06/05/2004
In my opinion the best of the trilogy. There's actually a story to follow rather than just fighting. It's a great movie, and while it's long and may get old, it's worth seeing.

It's good but a bit drawn out!
Richard_Howson 05/14/2004
I love when Frodo disappeared up the Ring!
MeTalhed 04/17/2004
This movie along with all the other Lord of the Rings movies were awesome! The books were much better, but the movies did it great justice! I was also surprised to see Elija Woods Playing Frodo but he did a great job!
