 | VirileVagabond (32) 11/18/2003 | Our Lips Are Sealed is easily the best and most recognized single by the Go-Go's, yet it wasn't the highest charter from the group in the U.S. (which was We Got The Beat). As the lead track off of the band's debut (and best) full-length effort Beauty And The Beat (1981), the single is an example of master pop songwriting, tight, infectious and memorable. Written by the band's rhythm guitarist Jane Wiedlin and Specials singer Terry Hall after a tour bus romance, the success of Our Lips Are Sealed did create some friction within the Go-Go's as Wiedlin became the highest paid band member due to the royalties. Our Lips Are Sealed charted in the U.S. for 13 weeks in 1981, peaking at #20. Terry Hall's subsequent band Fun Boy Three recorded the most notable cover of the song, and the Hippos have an interesting punk version as well.
